This was earlier this year, when the Mexicans were shouting their extremely dubious claim that the guns being used by the drug cartels were
all coming in from America; that our lax (by Mexican or UN standards) civil gun laws make the fact the Mexican government can't control their own people somehow
our fault. This was right after the Obamination and his lackeys took over the reins in DC; and when Holder and Slick Hillary were calling for increases in gun control. The lapdog media picked up the Mexican cry, but were blown out of the water when it came out that of the guns the
federales had confiscated from
narcotraficantes, less than 13% of them could be proven to have originated in the civilian market in the United States - and practically all of
those were pistols, which Mexico really keeps strict controls on.
What the Mexicans did was put out a pile and a half of guns, several hundred of them, a bunch of pistols. mainly large caliber revolvers but M1911 types and some actual rarities, along with hand grenades, a mountain of spare magazines, RPGs, Claymores, other mines, a couple of M60s, at least one M1919A4; but mostly full auto AK-47s and some M-16s. They tried to use this pile of allegedly confiscated guns to prove that it was our Second Amendment that was behind all of Mexico's troubles. The Mexican government alleged all of these guns were obtained at gun shows and by straw purchases. Big mistake.
When the gun press and some conservative Congressmen demanded that Mexico fork over a complete list of serial numbers of that tremendous cache, the Mexicans wouldn't do it. They couldn't, because the
facts simply don't support the false allegations they made.
The conservative press, gun press and pro-gun-rights politicians had a field day pointing out that you can't walk into a gun store or gun show anywhere in the United States and buy Claymores, hand grenades, land mines or RPGs; or full-auto AK-47s, full-auto M16A1s, or belt-fed, crew-served automatic weapons. The fact that it was pointed out the M16s could be traced back to the Mexican Army and not to American gun shows was also picked up on even by the lapdog Obamist press. The few AK serials that were obtained definitely did not originate in the United States. The American people would not hold still for Obama even
thinking of knuckling under to the Mexicans or taking the rap for Mexico's drug wars, and let him and the Congress know in no uncertain terms that they wouldn't. The Obamists dropped the issue as quickly as they could and have not dared revisit it since, not with the tenor of the country being, "Don't even THINK of screwing with our Constitutional gun rights!"
