The way I was told, is a Saiga needs 14 (Threaded muzzle, 13 if not threaded) out of the box for 922r. Adding a PG makes that 15.

So, using a US PG, would take you right back to 14... so his but stock, and US mags would make up the other 4.

Or was I told wrong?
You are correct. Its not USA parts count its how many foreign parts you have, which must remain at 10 or less.

Don't know that I'm preaching ARs just that if you already train with one just to stay with that system. If you had an AK or similar rifle, I would have wrote stay with AKs. If you want a plinker the Saiga is a good gun, but I wanted it to shoot m193 and 855 ammo as I have access to all I can shoot.(don't ask)

I own a Ruskie SKS, M1, M1A, Colt Target rifle, Springfield 03,03A3, US mod of 1917, Springfield Trapdoor Calvary Carbine, K98k,US Krag 1896 Calvary Carbine, AR-10 and a Winchester mod. 1894 (made in 1908) takedown rifle all of which are shot regularly. I train with my ARs, M1s and my '03 for competition. The others are plinkers, along with several other pistol caliber longarms for Cowboy action shooting.

I really like the Saiga 308, I shot one and found it to be very accurate. The 223 was also, just wouldn't feed xm193 or 855(SS109). If I have to ditty I'm going with what I know upside down, inside out, forward and backward. I also want to be able to get parts and have been trained as an armorer for the system. Glocks to me are the only way to go, excepting a revolver.

The bullet guide has me a bit worried. Im fantastic with tools but id be half assing it with what i have available to me. Clamping it down to some with a C clamp of some short and using a hand drill... Id give my self a 70% chance of success, 10% chance of flawless success(a wam bam thank you mam 5min win), and 20% of failure.

As for the caliber its still up in the air. I want to have a few drums for when the zombies/aliens/ect come over for dinner unannounced. But 5.45 is priced soooo right, it would be wrong not to stock pile. Ehh screw it, 5.45 then buy 7.62 with the money id saved.

I'm gonna buy the rifle with my Vacation/Sick time check im getting soon. Then slowly acquire the parts for it and do it up with photos maybe some video of the whole conversion start to finish.
