I have successfully put gun oil on a papertowel and wrapped it around the part and put it inside an airtight container such as a ziplock bag or plastic food container. I don't know where to find it in the civilian world but in the Army we use a corrosion preventative paper, it resembles the thick brown paper used to make grocery bags that is impregnated with an oily substance.

That "gun paper" is used by the factory gunmakers as well. And I have yet to find it commercially available. Do not wrap in any commercial paper, as it attracts moisture. Wipe down with Mobil 1, and store in a permeable bag in a dry, warm place.

That paper is called VCI paper, and if you do a search on it, you'll find that it commercially available in rolls, as well as in pouches of various sizes. It's not cheap. I know of several folks who went together and bought a roll of it.

The VCI paper sealed in a plastic bag works great. A piece of brown paper bag that is covered in oil well do in a pinch. I use tackle boxes for parts and accessory storage, pistol box, rifle box, black powder box. They can fill up fast.
