GMAFB! NYC Marathon winner "Not American Enough?"

This frosts my cookies. Long story short: the runner who won the NYC Marathon yesterday, Meb Kheflezighi, is under attack by both anonymous online right wing racists and commentators on CNBC.com who should surely know better. They have one thing in common: both sides say that Kheflezighi is not a true American because he's not native-born.

For heaven's sake! The guy has lived here for 22 years; he's a naturalized citizen. He chose to become an American. By my lights, that makes him more American than many of the jackasses sniping at him from behind their walls of anonymity and morons using their columns to equate him to a ringer on a semi-pro football team or Double-A level hockey team.

Anyway, read the article and make up your own minds. But as far as I am concerned, Kheflezighi is an American citizen and has been for years; so that makes his NYC Marathon win an American win. It's not about where you came from; it's about where you hold your citizenship. And he is one of ours.

We have this mexican restaurant in town the men that own are all naturalized citizens. They are so proud of this that they display their citizenship papers in a picture frame like a lawyer displays a diploma. The moral is that naturalized citizens repect it more than born citizens. I think what they are saying about this man is a bunch of crap.
