Cool video. I noticed though you raised the barrel of the rifle every time you worked the bolt. At the rifle range I shoot at the do not like you to raise the barrel of the rilfe higher than your shouder even though there is a 150 foot mountain directly behind the targets. They treat everyone like we are all novices. I can'nt say anything either because it is the only one that is close by. What ammo were you shooting? That would have really looked cool at night.

There is rarely anyone at the range when I shoot (like in the video). I was shooting Russian light ball from AIM surplus. I was surprised at how evident the fireballs were even in the cloudy but light daylight.

The range I shoot at is pretty much the same way. But, when one looks up at the barriers and the roof one can see why. Lots of holes in the roof.

There have been times at the range where I TRULY have felt endangered by other shooters !! Some RSO's go overboard at times, but remember they are there for a reason.

There was a time when I would go down to Casa Grande to shoot at a non-controlled public range... Free. Great fun to blast veggies, milk bottles, old electronics, and things with compressed gas. But after a few incidences of having people shoot after calling a cease fire, and shooting full-auto until nearly out of control, convinced me that $7 a day was a good deal for a range with safety personel.
The best fireballs I've generated (much to the chagrin of the shooters next to me) were using Bulgarian heavy ball from an M44. A very visible 3 foot flame... and the most recoil of any of the ammo I have used... which includes most of the MilSurps, all of the commercial, and 10 or 12 different hand loads.
Bulgarian heavy-ball measures as follows (decap of 20 rounds):
Bullet=180gr. to 180.3gr.
Powder load = 48.5 to 49.6gr. (!!!)
Case = Brass
Primer = Berdan (corrosive)

Yeah thats why I do not complain much I know the range masters are all about saftey and the do not personally know you then they are just looking out for everyone's saftey. It's just hard to bite your lip when you are a knowledgeable and safe shooter to be treated like one of the dopes.
Where do you get 180 grain Bulgarian? I have shot 147 grain useing my freinds M1944 and it is enough to give your shoulder a workout. I love those fireballs though! Way cool!

My first Mosin was an M44. My first Mosin ammo was Bulgy heavy ball as you describe.
No wonder I got hooked the first try......
