NBC and the Associated Press are projecting that McConnell in Virginia and Christie in New Jersey are the winners in those states' gubenatorial elections. Why is this significant?
Because Obama campaigned for the Democrats in both states, five times in Virginia and three in New Jersey, and both his candidates got whomped. I don't mean that they just lost; I mean that they lost BIG.
In both states, voters answering exit polls said that the most important factor was the economy - which is the responsibility (or the problem, depending on your point of view) of the Democrats. It would seem that the voters are disenchanted with Obama's "change."
Another interesting thing is that the independents Obama successfully conned in 2008 went for the Republicans this time. And on top of that, the coalition Obama put together with his spellbinding oratory was prominent in its absence for the Democrats this time out.
Granted, these are for practical purposes bye-elections. Neither Virginia nor New Jersey is an influential state in the Electoral College. Neither one is considered a bellwether state the way California or New York is. But the Democrats lost both of them, badly.
The Democrats are probably sitting in their campaign headquarters and in the Oval Office, their noisemakers silent, their party hats askew and their jaws on the floor, wondering what hit them. It may not be an electoral tsunami, but it certainly is a turning of the tide. If they weren't worried about 2010's midterm elections before, you can bet they are now.
Thank you for sharing some GOOD news!!!! It's time for folks to realize that all Mr. O's promises were so much empty rhetoric, much as the rest of the sitting Dems have promised for so long. They are looking to feather their own nests, much as some Republicans, I'm sorry to say. Maybe this will wake the people to the mess we've allowed to take root in DC!!!!!!! My country 'tis of thee, Sweet Land of LIBERTY!!!
The People Have spoken the first words of Change...The Change necessary as Americans see it, not what one group or President wants to do without our Consent.

... if this was any indication of the contempt that 'we the people' feel for Washington and the crooks running the asylum, 2010 will be a very interesting year.
... I'm thinking that the Democrats are in need of a serious overhaul if they think Obama can save them... namely Pelocchio, Reid, Rangel, Dodd, Murtha, Feinstein, Schumer ... *gasp*... don't have it in me to name all the crooks!
... of course, in the morning the Democrats will attempt to deny, mislead and discredit anyone and everything to take the attention off their losses.

The Dumocraps in Washington are to stupid as to wonder why they lost. They'll just pass it off like a fart and keep on being a bunch of power hungrey p.o.s. they are.
I'm still trying to figure out New York....
Bloomberg to City Council (maybe): Yes, I know the law says I can't run for a third term. Yes, I know that I campaigned hard and spent a bunch of money to make sure the previous mayor was held to that two-term limit. But it's ME we're talking about now and I want the law changed so I can run for a third term. The people of New York thinking I'm a lying, two-faced, snake oil salesman? Heck, there's enough stupid enough to vote me in as long as I spend enough money and $50 million sounds about right. Trust Me.
The next election? Well, maybe you can work on making the office of Mayor a permanent position and we just won't have to bother with an election.
I am most interested in one important detail of the voter analysis not out at the time of this post.
How much of Obama's presidential "base" of lower income families and people either did not vote or perhaps voted Republican?
Remember; the young, lower salaried block was very important in Obama's presidential election.
If this important base has lost faith in Obama the Democrats have a real problem on their hands. However, it can only be said that Democrats threw this base under the table by continuing the Bush2 policy of big bucks for big corporations when these people needed direct help.
This is just the opening salvo, not the not the war winning final shot. Alot can happen before the mid-term elections and it seems that Americans have ADD when it comes to elections.
I think that our only hope is that the current crop of politicians and the Obama Administration will continue to piss off Americans on a weekly, if not daily, basis; like their current policy.
I'd like to see change for NJ with Christie. Let's see if he will be a friend to the sportsmen and women of his state. If this election night proves to be a bad omen for Obama, it really has to put Sarah Palin in bad light. The only candidate she campaigned for lost. She appears to be poison for Conservative candidates as well.
2010 will be a watershed year for us, ONLY if the GOP can muster themselves, grow some nads and LISTEN to what We The People truly want! If they continue as they have done the last few years, then the Dems will continue on their merry way, raping and pillaging this nation.
The GOP truly needs to CHANGE. They have been handed a golden opportunity - lets all pray they don't muck it up again.
This was a pretty strong referendum on the obama train wreck.
I think it serves as a pretty strong warning shot to the so called "blue dogs" (better listen to your constituents) as well as the GOP that if they field a marginal candidate he/she will be stomped come election time.
Yes, Hoffman would have been nice too but remember not only is the district about to get gerrymandered, but also Owens is a moderate democrat and actually stood to the right of the originally (and errantly) backed "Republican" candidate on most issues (as well as hails from there). Still, it was a very close race between a somewhat latecomer and relatively unknown independent and the democratic candidate and this shows voter's discontent with the present day obamatrainwreck.
But a good night for the nation--if we get the brakes on this agenda we might still have a nation and start recovery sometime sooner.
