I particularly love shooting skeet/sporting clays/trap and etc. I have a range not too far from my house so it makes a great morning/afternoon event. I'm just curious as to who has "the eye for the sky" and who can't hit jack squat.
I'll admit when I first started (about age 14) I couldn't hit anything. With time and effort I got better and now I hit anywhere from 50-75% of the clays, I find that pretty good for myself since I only shoot my pump BPS (I've always gone by the motto "shoot what you hunt with"). Many guys prefer o/u's and autos but I love my pump and being able to turn heads with the only pump AND only camo'd gun on the range.
How many G&G'ers can shoot a shotgun and not just a rifle? You guys know your rifles and pistols, but not much with the shotgun is talked about on here, especially wingshooting.
I used to shoot clays a lot. I haven't done much for 2-3 years though. I really enjoyed it, but 12g took a jump in price and I was broke. I have been thinking about getting back into it, but the cost of shells is kind of crazy still.
Edit: I used a pump for shooting clays as well. When I decided I might start bird hunting I switched to the Ithica 51.

I shoot quite a bit of trap abd am getting pretty good at it with my Wingblaster pump gun. I will be shooting in a Charity clays shoot on Monday the 9th doing a round each of trap, skeet and sporting clays. Ireload so I can afford it.

i'll shoot skeet once or twice a week for a couple week stretch every now and then to get it out of the system, bird hunting around here is a joke unless you're after stocked pheasants or you go through all the bs to take geese so i just take the 20ga skeet model 1100 out
I shoot clays a couple of times a year. Nothing formal, just friends getting together on the range and throwing clays for each other. We mostly just try to get in some practice for just before hunting season and we all use the guns we hunt with. I use a pump and a some other guys have pumps. A couple have semis and one has an over and under. In all cases they are field guns and are used by their owners for hunting. I have to say that after our opening weekend this past weekend, I kind of wanted a double barrel of some kind since I had to unload 5 shells every time we headed to a different hunting spot and the guys with doubles only had to break open the gun and take out two shells.
BTW, Redrider, my wife and I bought a BPS for her to shoot clays and she also deer hunts with it. It has got to be the smoothest pump gun made today. I love that gun and have considered getting one for myself.

I love my BPS! I have the National Turkey one that can shoot 3.5" shells and I use it to hunt everything! Deer, ducks, geese, doves, clays and etc. The only other thing I would recommend is a patternmaster choke for deer. I shoot skeet and everything else with the stock improved cylinder and modified chokes.
I do like the fact of SxS's and o/u's because they take so little time to unload. I occasionally will take my 20ga. SxS to the range just to exercise it. Another trick that makes my BPS a favorite is that the magzine can be unloaded by pushing the retention spring to the side. That makes it so I only gotta rack it once to unload.

most pumps and autos have the ability to unload without working the action. I use this method to unload my Nova.

I shot A Lot of trap before my eye surgery and scored pretty consistently 21-24 out of 25 with My Winchester Model 12...I've won lots of turkeys and Hams with it.

It amazes me that no matter how many of those orange birds myself and shooting companions kill,they just keep multiplying and flying back.But as long as I can see and walk,and they can fly,I will keep after them. ,,,sam.
We shot clays weekend. I'm using a M12 full choke. My buddies and I are all very inexperienced but we are having a hoot! I need advice, nobody shoots clays with a full choke, correct? Being that I don't have an O/U and I need to choose, do I want modified or improved? Keep in mind this is a very informal deal and we are just using a hand thrower. I also could use some expert opinion on the strategy of it in relation to the choke or whatever else is to be considered.
I did pretty well with the M12 in full choke, only lost to one guy by one clay. We all stink so bad I'd love to get a little edge here and smoke him next time.

I shot league trap for two years and a fair amount of informal trap and clays since. I love the sport. I mainly shoot my LH 1100 12g mod choke. But occasionally, I will take my little 20g 870 and have a go. With trap I usually shoot 22-24 with an occasional 25 thrown in for good measure. Clays is is usually in the high 30s out of 50.

I love to shoot trap. I wish I had more friends that I could shoot with. I wish some of the members here lived closer so we could meet and go to my club and shoot sporting clays,trap or skeet.

I've going out and shooting clays every other weekend, with my friend, he's a got a Browning Auto and I've been using my Tactical Mav 88 with a 19 " barrel, no choke. I've had a lot of fun. Too bad dove season just ended.

That is often the most "fun time" you can get into.Just going out with friends,using any firearm.and poping away to your hearts content.(or you run out of ammo/birds.) ,,,sam.
I love the heck outta going out and blastin a few.....dozen or so with my two stepsons (10 & 13), great way to spend a weekend afternoon. Beats shooting paper.....

I used to shoot skeet tournaments on a regular basis and could usually bring home more money than I left on the table but then for some reason it wasn't as much fun as it once was so I "cut back" to my home club and get in 6 to 8 rounds a week now days. When shot cost balloned out of sight we all cut back to 410 only, and most of us are still there even though shot cost has eased a little.
The 410 will do one of 2 things for you, gross embarassement or make you a better shooter. I used to be a 95-96% 410 shooter and have eased up into the 98-99% class as of late. I'll keep doing it as long as I'm having fun.......
