Just because a certain barrel length does not provide for the fullest potential of a specific cartridge, does not mean the weapon is useless. It still may serve a valuable role. Such as the Mosin carbines, and the No 5 Jungle carbine. While they do not allow for all of the powder to be spent, they still make people die !! The AK Pistol does the same thing.

I didn't think I would need to explain that, but there's one in every crowd...

If you wAnt to crittique what I say then fine, but do me the favor of not putting words in my mouth. I never said they are useless, I said that I think they are stupid whic is an opinion. If you can't deal with people havingg difffering opinions then I don't know what to tell you.

In my opinion Dracos offer nothing other than concealability over a standard ak system and a whole list of checks against them. Disagree, I don't care and it is not going to change my opinion. I don't see a need for this weapon in my pi, if you do then good for you. When someone asks for an opinion I give it.

Since guns don't have Brains , They CAN"T be stupid...
I disagree with you as they offer a Compact weapon System for use in Close quarters , such as in a Vehicle , where it would be hard to weild a full sized rifle , and are comparable to an HK MP5K , An UZI , Etc. Just because you dont see a need for a weapon doesnt mean Other people dont. We are here to discuss differing Opinions so Chill OUT !!!

I think people are not actually reading what itype... You just agreed with what you disagreed with. Not for nothing I was not the only person to type an unfavorable dislike of these, funny how I am the only that catches flak for it...Which also, pi means personal inventory meaning my inventory. I acknowledged that others can and may have a need in theirs. I am failing to see what I said so worngly...

Yes, they are concealable!
No, I don't like them!

??? What are you smoking ???
You said "Agreed... these are pretty stupid and impractical. With a barrel that short your not even going to generate decent mv's anyhow. "

This is simply Not True .

Then you said "Thanks RS, I didn't think I needed to explain why the 7.62x39 pistol is ridiculous but apparently I had to .

The one thing I failed to mention, the powder burn rate of a rifle round versus pistol round. "
The 7.62 X 39 is a Rifle round , But some of the rifles have short Barrels..
You also said..."That is not the logic at all... What is the logic is that in order to be effective a bullet has to reach certain ballistics. Those ballistics are not present with too short of a barrel. There are pistol calibers that are effective because the bullet weight is more suited to slower muzzle velocities. If you want an ak, then get one, if you want a pistol then get one also, but an ak is not a pistol and the 7.62x39 is not a pistol caliber. "
SImply Not true...My pistol is Made from a short Factory Rifle barrel and it develops the same ballistics as if it had a Stock on the back of it...
You claimed they are "Impractical" and I am telling you They are NOT Impractical at all...They are like any other weapon and They have their Place in the scheme of things .
I'm reading what you are saying , but it doesnt Have substance in reality !

Squirrelblaster, thanks for asking the question to start off with. I have been curious about these guns for some time. The main gun media has ignored them so far. I know that the MV is reduced, but it is still spiting out a high speed .30 cal chunk of copper and lead. That can still lead to someone becoming horizontal and room temperature rather quickly. Great gun for the zombie hoards that might show up at the door. I recently sold a gun and now have some money to play with. This just makes the choices even harder. I am seriously considering one. What to do...what to do....

SInce Muzzle Velocity IS being discussed about the pistols , the 7.62 X 39 was intended for the SKS and AK weapons with barrel lengths of 16 to 20 inches Maximum. Due to the velocity of the cartridge being in the 2100 to 2300 fps range , there will only be a Loss of 10 fps for every inch that is shortened.( refer to The 45th Edition of the Lyman Reloading Handbook ) So if My barrel is 12 inches on my pistol it will ONLY be 40 to 80 FPS slower than My rifle or Long Barreled SKS...Pretty Insignificant in My opinion when you are dealing with ranges Less than 150 Yards and More Liely less than 50 Yards...Thats what I'm Talking about. Hence the pistol is a Very Viable weapon and The COOL FACTOR is high on the charts , especially when I load a 75 rnd drum on the pistol and Hold On for the ride !!!
SquirrelBlaster , you should get one !!!

I agree, sprout took all the flak when i was the first to call them utterly ridicules. And beyond the kool factor they have nothing on a SBR. Which i think is cooler anyhow. Like i said underfolding SBR, if ure gonna spend money on a "Cool factor" gun might as well invest well. Not like you have to have it shortened to start with. Buy a underfolder save up for the barrel work and tax stamp. Then people will drool over how kool your gun is.

how many inchs is yours end to end? the entire apeal of these to me is the compactness, and as you said cool factor!... if the only diffrnece is a couple of inchs off the barrel and no stock then im thinkin that a side or under folder is just as good.... but if it is much smaller then id be very happy, thats why i was saying i wanted one with the shortened gas cyliner..

Barrel length is 12.5 inches...OAL is 22 inches ! It is an AMD-65 rifle kit converted to a pistol and as such , there are NO Compliance parts necessary as per BATFE Regs !

wow, no compliance parts needed?! now thats a selling point!!

im having a lot of trouble deciding weather to get one of these or to take advantage of the arsinal sale on kvar

edit: just got the tape messure out and my romak 2 is 25 inchs with the stock folded... so i dont know of loosing 3 inchs is worth not having the option of having a stock.....im thinkin that a side or under folder would just be better.... if it took the barrel down to like 8 inchs or a shorter gas piston then it would be worth it.

I really wish I lived in a state that allowed a side-folder. I too would like a Krinkov. I think I am slowly becoming a 5.45 fan-boy :O

squirrlblaster, did you notice on J and G's site that they now have a Sterling "pistol" that is chambered for the 7.62x25? Pistol version of the Steling sub gun in Tokerov caliber. Why do they do this to me? Mooseman, how much was it to have a receiver added to the kit, total cost? Cheaper than the AK pistol from J and G? Just curious.

hi, blaster. To see the complete reviews, go to "reviews" at the bottom of the page. You will see a partial review, as you said. Click on the "by john" or whatever name and you will see the whole review. Are you getting one? I wish I could!

I built My receiver from a Blank so the Kit cost me around 100 Bucks and the Blank was 20...Rivets were 6 bucks...total 126.00 and about 6 hours labor..
Squirrelblaster you cant cut the Barrel down to 8 inches and Have a folding stock UNLESS you register it as an AOW SBR...

^ i think he means the pistol.

And im like 98% sure that under 26 inchs over all length(folded) is illegal. Unless registered, my buddy had a taticool under folder. With out a muzzle attachment it was 25 1/8". Our goto gun store guy made some calls and confirmed it. It had a fake can wielded over the barrel and the AKS-74U size piston and hand guards. I refuse to call it a krinkov or w/e untill i know the reason why.*shrug* But any how our guy wouldnt touch it would a ten foot pole, ended up pawning it off at another shop for a loss but beats paying 200 bucks to keep a rifle he hated.

i ment that i wanted the pistol to have a short 8 inch barrel. not that and a folder.....

i meant that if i coundnt have an ak pistol with really short barrel then id rather just have a normal ak with a folding stock.

so the length of the gun folded matters? legaly i mean?
