597 with differnt types of ammo

i tested 5 different kinds of ammo i cam out with 2 clear winners the Remington hollow points came out most accurate but the CCI STINGER that i has fed and cycles extremely smoother then anything i have ever felt. there is actually a noticeable difference. and it seems o all shoot the same no highs or lows in the noise it makes. it would be the best round out of the 5 i tryed for shooting long range (100-150). this was not a controlled experiment this was semi rapid fire 10 rounds in about 10 seconds or less. gun used was Remington 597 distance of 25 yards forgot to mention the firearm was sighted in for the federals

right to left top to bottom Remington thunder bolt, federal re box, CCI stinger, Remington hollow point, and Winchester.

the arrow is the top sorry i took the pic sideways

We have 4 .22's, and the only gun that likes the Thunder-duds is a old Stevens. All the other .22's will not shoot the duds accurately. Worst junk on the market. We couldn't even sight the guns in using thunder-duds. There were occasional miss fires, and you could hear the difference between rounds, as you stated. We use CCI mini-mags exclusively, even with the Stevens..

As far as I can tell ballistically, there's not real difference between Thunderduds & Golden Bullsquish. (Remington Thunderbolts & Golden Bullets) They have the worst consistancy of any ammo on the market...and they're probably the dirtyest since WWI surplus ammo.

For a 597, go with CCI Minimag for hs ammo, CCI SV for regular and for really good groups use Wolf MT or SK Jagd Std. Plus (same ammo, both are brands of Lapua)

Take a peek at the Rimfire Central.com forums for Rem and the 597 subforum--that's what everyone uses, including me.

I also did a 16 brand test of high speed only and posted it over there--the very best high speed was CCI Velocitor. American Eagle and Win 333 were also good HS ammo's and cheaper.
