First Time Carry Story

Ok guys/gals lets hear it. Where did you first carry concealed after receiving your CCW if applicable? Here is mine::

Wore concealed to the Zip Strip convenience store and at the drive through at McDonald's today. It was a rush while I had to severely adjust my UTG horizontal shoulder holster it was still pretty cool. It was exhilerating, but after a minute or so I calmed down and it was like any other day.

It doesn't really qualify like yours, but heres mine...

I was doing fly-away security for Gen Abazaid going from Bagram to Chacklala Pakistan. We were told in our intel brief that we were not allowed to bring guns off the aircraft in Pakistan, but we still needed to get off to set up security. No one on the crew had been there before so I had to call to the HQ in Ali Al Salem to get further clarification. I talked with a Chief there and explained what was going on. I asked him how we were going to set up security without being able to bring guns off the plane. He asked me what gear we had, we were wearing flight suits with tac vests. He then asked me if I had pockets... As a Senior Airman at the time, this confused the crap out of me! I had to have him repeat himself... "Yes, put the damn thing in your pocket if you have to, but do not leave the aircraft without some type of weapon on you!" So there I was, in Chacklala Pakistan dropping off the then Commander of CENTCOM with my M-9 in my pocket. I think this qualifies as CCW, but unfortunately, I live in Wisconsin with a retarded Govenor who doesn't want to pass the CCW law. I am applying for a Florida CCW permit though!

I don't remember where I went but I do remember feeling as though everyone was looking at me but after a while I discovered no one was looking at me and that no one knew I was packing. In fact it still supprises me that no one has ever seemed to notice I was carrying except by wife before we were married. She hugged me when we were heading to the movies and discovered it. She knew I carried but it suprised her cause she didn't know I was carring that night.

Don't remember when (~20+) years ago but know I lived in Georgia.

- First open carry that wasn't hunting related was camping in North Georgia Mountains around the Blue Ridge area. Had my 357 Python revolver SA/DA in a leather belt holster. I went in and out of gas stations and surrounding grocery stores without anyone even staring. Remember being pumped up originally and somewhat nervous. People told me a lot of BS about open carriers being targets for criminals. After checking out of the Bi-Lo, it started feeling natural.

- First permitted concealed carry was ~19 years ago. After getting a lot of looks in and around the Atlanta metro area, local LEO and gun shop recommended to getting GA CWP because many city LEOs and locals might not know the law as well, stares and inconvenience. My concealed carry was a 380 acp Makarov, SA/DA with safeties, IWB.

I live in South Carolina now. They only allow concealed carry. I still carry my Makarov but replacing with a 9mm soon due to more light and compact 9mm pistol selections, ammo variety and availability.

When I first got my permit, I started carrying at places where people knew me so there would be no alarm at an unusual bulge or holster peeking from under a hem while I got used to concealing a gun. While smoking a cigar in the shop I frequent, one of the two deputy Sheriffs who were also there took a long puff on his cigar and after he exhaled, asked "Do you have a concealed handgun permit?" Thinking about the Detective Special in the DeSantis Apache on my ankle, I answered "Uh, yes, I do. Is something showing from under my cuff?" He smiled and said "No, you're fine; I teach the course and I'm trying to get some business."

Note: I wasn't required to tell them I was carrying because neither had approached me "in his official capacity". We were merely customers in the same place.

I carried a LONG time before CHL's were available, so it didn't bother me when I "got legal"!

My first time was to the local wally world, I believe they call it the "wally world shuffle" at some other forums. Stopping for nachos is also a requirement

Florida has a "Nonresident" permit which would allow him to carry when traveling in states that have reciprocity with FL.

I carried for 5 years a little Raven .25 Auto long before it was legal, mostly when I went bar hopping.

When I got my CCW (a great many years later!), we took a walk down in the city center. There was a festival going on so we went there and walked around. Several cops was walking the beat there, and one kept looking at me suspiciously. (Later found out he saw me at work but wasn't certain I remembered him.) I saw a worker from the gun store and a few days later asked him if he was carrying while there. He said no as the entire area was considered a alcohol area as they sold beer at one end. I told hiom I didn't know that, and thought you could only have beer in a small area. He told me that it was changed just for this weekend, but since I was not drinking and entered the other end not to worry as if I was caught they would have just said to leave since there was no signs posted, nor was there anything saying beer was abled to be consumed anywhere. Several years later I asked the guy I took the class from and he agreed. He also said "If it was hidden, who knew?"
Now I carry all the time and not nervous, but my wife has noted that she sees I drive slower on the highway when carrying.

I got my permit in the mail Saturday. Carried to the local grocery store for the first time late last night. Something VERY unexpected happened to me... after the initial rush and "can people see this three-pointed sillohette in my front pocket jitters?" were over I felt the oddest sensation of relaxation. It was an odd feeling, but while loading the groceries into the truck, I can say my heart rate was lower than normal, and I felt a lot more safe than ever. I even made a point of walking the cart halfway across the lot to the return. It's the first time I've realized just how nervous that place has made me feel before without it.

I guess it makes sense since Ive seen two hit-and-run accidents, suspicious packages exploded by the cops, helicopters circling on a weekly basis and the night I am sure I avoided a car-jacking attempt by paying attention to my surroundings an body language of a few characters (cops flooded that lot a few hours later and the helicopters circled for about 1/2 an hour later that night).

My first permit was also about 20 years ago and I don't know where or when it was exactly but I was a news photographer in a very liberal city in So. California and talk about being paranoid!

really great plan but i really don't think it will work, as the keyword here is "traveling" i don't think that it is meant for a resident of another state. Although i could be wrong it just mite work
