1) Is a PSL trully an AK? It shoots a much hotter round.
2) Is a PSL a Dragnov? <sp?> They look the same to me, and they fire the same round.
3) Is not the 7.62x54R, for the most part, a ballistic twin to the .308?
4) Are the PSL's accurate?
I am not a newbe here, but as to my AK47 IQ, it's about 0.

PSL-Dragunov: not even close. The PSL using a long stroke gas system, while the dragunov uses a short piston system. and the receiver construction is totally different. the mags are NOT interchangeable.

PSL's can be made very accurate rifles, but remember these were built as DMR rifles, not snipers.

Check this link out, it should answer a lot of your questions. The PSL is not a Dragunov, although it is often referred to as a Romanian Dragunov it is not a true Dragunov. See the sticky threads on the top of this forum.

Some PSLs, such as mine, are stamped FPK Dragunov but that's a misnomer. I think the importers do that for name recognition to help sales. When these rifles were not as common as they are now a good portion of potential buyers wouldn't know what A PSL was but most would recognize the Dragunov moniker.
I got mine from a friend, I knew the Romanians built their own rifle in response to the Dragunov but didn't know what it was called. When he asked if I wanted to buy his PSL I immediately thought it was a game console and said no thanks I already have an X-BOX!

when I was seeing them for $1,500.00 or more on the net!

They are not copies of the dragunov. The PSL/ROMAK3 guns do not have the pressure adjuster on the gas tube, and they are a different action. I have the Romanian knock off and the chinese NDM-86 in .308. The chinese is a direct copy of the dragunov, but varies a bit. The Tiger rifles are vary similar, but do not have the variable setting on the gas tube either. How much this affects function is beyond me. Getting better grade russian surplus is probably the way to go, as in the 7n1 rounds. They are getting harder to come by these days, but would probably function better than most other surplus for any of these rifles.
I actually like the chinese better, as being .308 you can get better match grade rounds. The downside is that only around 1,000 made it into the US, and they are rare and cost an arm and a leg. Mine cost me $4,500, and only came with one mag. My second mag cost me $150.

Not even copies, completely different other than shooting the same bullet. They don't even use the same magazines. According to 76254r.net they have about the same potential accuracy wise. I am actually thinking about getting rid of mine, if I can convince the wife

Some of these dealers either through ignorance or hoping to prey on uneducated buyers list their Romanian parts as real Dragunov parts. This includes the 10 round 7.62x54R magazines. Since these parts and magazines will only work for the Romanian PSL rifle they are not interchangeable with a Chinese or Russian Dragunov. To complicate matters, the Romanian magazines have a very similar appearance to real SVD magazines. The easiest way to spot a Romanian mag is by the X on the sides. (Left - Right: Chinese 7.62x51, Romanian 7.62x54, Russian 7.62x54)"

The magazines aredifferent. What isn't is that online sealers sell pal mags as dragunov mags. They are not SvD mags. Svd mags don't have an X pattern on the side of the mag body.

A friend of a friend had a PSL and then bought a Tigr. He sold my friend the PSL and I noticed the mag was marked PSL. My friend said the other guy had done this so his shooting buddies wouldn't confuse the two. Apparently the PSL mag would latch into the Tigr at least to some extent. Now of course, I can't prove any of this one way or another, but I have my friend's rifle in my gun cabinet with PSL stenciled in bold white letters on the side of it.

I keep hearing how different the psl is from the svd but they never say how what are differences between the two becides the little shape differences in the recever and the shorter gas system? mags go along with the shape of the recever
people say the psl is a ak47 but i can find more differeces in thoes two than the psl vs svd

Personally, I think you would be doing the folks who own SVDs or FPKs/PSLs a great service if you take both guns to the range, load up the magazines, and run a function test of, say, 50 or 60 rounds per gun. If you can prove that issue PSL magazines will fit the SVD, the SVD shooters will suddenly have a source of extra magazines they can afford.

I Took Them Out And They Both Function FLAWLESSLY!!! Put 100 Rounds Through Both With The Mags Swapped!
