What else is there? Seriously, that's about ALL most people shoot in their Mosins. That's what they were MADE to shoot, right? And Mosins are what that ammo was made to shoot IN.
Just remember that the milsurp ammo has primers that leave a corrosive residue in the barrel, and the rifle will need to be cleaned real good after firing. Either pour lots of boiling water down the barrel, or use something with ammonia in it, like Windex, to neutralize the corrosive salts.
And the M44 will shoot better with the bayonet either extended or removed, it DOES make a difference everybody says.
Stick around, there will be the usual horde of Mosin lovers coming along soon, offering advice and demanding photos. And welcome to G&G!

The price on the surplus makes it rather inexpensive to shoot. Heck you'll probably dislocate your shoulder before you finish a spam can. Just remember that some of the ammo is steel core, so know what is behind your target.
have fun. Initially i was scared of the stuff but really as long as you keep it clean you won't have an issue. It's a lot cheaper. It is as others have said what this gun was built for.
if your a lazy cleaner like me you can opt for more expensive stuff and buy Winchester or wolf gold, they have boxer primers so they are cleaner. but I haven't found mil-surplus any less accurate then newer stuff.
AND I am still waiting for a link to steel core ammo, you know just in case we are invaded by zombies with bullet proof vests.
and is this a smiley smacking one smiley and squirting its knuckle children on the other?
Either pour lots of boiling water down the barrel, or use something with ammonia in it, like Windex, to neutralize the corrosive salts.
Boiling water may not be a good idea, as it approaches the melting point of the shellac finish.
It's commonly stated that cleaners and solvents must be used to "neutralize" the salts. This is misleading as no household chemicals are going to neutralize a salt. Instead, the salts are dissolved and removed by anything containing water, including, of course, water.

So all these links, I see the Hungarian, Bulg. or Czech...what about this stuff on CTD? Listed as Russian...Looks like a Bulgarian can... Is it the same? And what about silver tips...for what, vampires/werewolves?
Is it ok to use military surplus ammo in my Mosin M44?
If you want to read up on your M44 or any other Mosin Nagant, to see what it shoots or what kind of preformance to expect from a specal type of ammo. Try this web site, these guys realy have the info on the Mosin Nagant and the ammo it shoots.
This is the Ammunition Evaluations page (what I use most) to get to the home page for the rifle info just click on the bottom of the bullet in the upper right of the page.
