well funds are dry right now, but january or febuary used deer rifles are pretty cheap. i think i'll go with the 700 in .270. hopefully i can find one with a good scope. thank you everyone. any more advise will help.

I have never been to Wisconsin, but if it is a wide open area you will do most of your hunting in, i would go with the tried-and-true 700.....chambered in the venerable .270!

I've own a Remington 700 ADL in .270 and it's a nice rifle. It shoots as well as my 7mm magnum (BDL) and costs half as much.
