Build your own Mosin target rifle?

I seen this barrel for sale on Gunbroker, its off of a maghinegun.
24" Barrel Blank Mosin Nagant 91/30 03-CP-003 : Barrels at GunBroker.com
The seller says its been threaded and cut for a Mosin Nagant. It looks very heavy. The machinegun mounting lug would need to be turned off in a lathe. He says it will require extensive final fitting. Interesting, but I've got too many projects in the works as it is,and "extensive final fitting"
sounds pretty expensive to me. The price ain't to bad, I haven't seen too many barrels for only $50.00. A heavy barreled Mosin on a hex receiver...
that would be cool.

With such a heavy barrel, you'll need to go with barrel bedding block, which means special stock. Also, if this barrel is used, it is likely worn out really bad.

For what you would pay building that rifle out you can buy one already built. Forgot where I saw them but they were only a couple hundred bucks or so.

Thats true Tex, you could buy a heavy barrel rifle for less than you could build a Mosin into one, and for that reason I'd never do it. But I'd still like to see it done.

I can't argue that it would be fun to see someone do it. Maybe what can be done is a group get together and build it. Include one gunsmith so the cost would be reasonable. I bet with that heavy barrel and proper fitting the long range accuracy would be something to see!
