I've been curious about these but I don't know anyone who has tried them.

Yeah pleasing lines are not part of the design.

Ya definitely not going to win any awards in the design department. Would have been a good idea for them to have installed a rail on the bottom so you could attach a picatinny bipod.

Yeah the rail idea is a good one.

I'm not sure about installing this on my rifle though since it seems to be held in place with set screws and Loc-Tite.

Ya that is a bit iffy, though I suppose you could mig weld it through the taps for the set screws, those Kreb's bolt-on gas blocks seem to hold up well enough though.

I wonder if you would get the same effect that this offers by just drilling a small port on the front of the stock gas block.

Krebs makes some quality stuff but this isn't Krebs so therefore is an unknown entity. I'm not sure about drilling holes in the gas tube either, it might cause more problems than it solves.

Not the tube the block, so that it actually allows some gas to escape rather than just driving back the piston at full force. Holes in the tube won't reduce the amount of force being driven on the piston.

+1.

The reason the gas tube is fluted is to allow the excess gas to escape around the sides of the gas piston after it's left the gas block.

I thought to my self, how ugly could it be. Then i looked at the pics.... Id rather shoot heavy ball and risk it then be cought dead with that monstrosity on my gun. Ive allways thought of drilling and taping a gas block, then using some type of screw to open or close the gas port. Could limit the gas or cut it off completely and cycle the action your self . Ive got no idea what to call the screw thing i have in mind. Basicly its threaded rod thats case hardened and has a Philips(or hex) head cut into it. To keep it from working its self all the way out you could weld washer over it, that way you can still get your tool in to adjust it.

That's basically what that is, it is ugly because in order to keep the thing from blowing off during operation it has to be a bit bulky
