Okay - I received my M16A1 Kit from TSG today. It looks like mostly Colt parts.
The barrel is not original - the only mark on it is a "C" (no quoatation marks) on the underside of the barrel near the muzzle. No MP marks though. Also, it seems to be in-the-white. I am stupid so please tell me - how can you tell chrome-moly in-the-white vs. stainless steel?). It doesn't appear to be chrome-lined, but how would I tell? On my chrome-lined barrels there's a nice contrast between the chrome and the blue/parkerized finish. Here I don't see much contrast.
No full-auto fire control - the trigger/hammer/selector/disconnector are in a new package by themselves, so it looks like they took out the naughty bits and subbed in the tame ones. Also, the gas tube is not a pigtail, but a standard mostly-straight rifle length tube.
The bolt carrier is M16, but I believe it has been long accepted that it is okay to have the M16 bolt carrier.
All in all pretty cool.
Can anyone tell me about that barrel? It has some staining spots/freckling on it. I am inclined to beleive it is an unfinished Colt, or else it is a new copy that I am supposed to think is an unfinished Colt.

Click the picture, and zoom in on the selector. Notice the multiple grooves in it? That's a full-auto selector right there...

That's fine with me, though - I don't have a full-auto receiver/license/stamp, etc. and I don't want any trouble with BATFE for having that stuff around.

The barells will need parkerized and are commercial manufacture. You should check headspace after assembling.
Dont use the sear, nueture the selector and hammer and you will be fine. (SP1 compliant)
To late now but there are a number of online venders selling these kits .
There are cheaper places to get these than Sportsmans guide, the market seems flooded with these now
Other vendors arent offering the bayo and mag but otherwise are the same kits. http://www.jgsales.com/product_info....oducts_id/3920

Thats funny TSG sent this reply to my question. Hello Fred. Thank you for your email. The COLT M15/A1 PARTS KIT you have on order with us may not be the same parts kit that J&G has advertised.
The ad states the parts kit is not brand new, but close to new. You should receive the same kit as it is advertised on our website. The barrel is finished but the color is black. If you have any questions, please contact us. Thanks for shopping the Guide! Keith Jones
