Question Help converting a Saiga 308

Hi all,

This is my first attempt at replacing a factory trigger. I watched the video on converting a Saiga at Saiga Pistol Grip Conversion on Vimeo and am doing the same thing... but on my Saiga 308 the two rear pins by the trigger that they drill near at 4:40 don't exist--the fire control group on my rifle is different from the one in the video. Those two pins don't exist; my trigger is a longer, 1-piece design (i.e. there is no wishbone trigger linkage; the whole trigger is just one piece). BTW it's a terrible design; the trigger pulls "up" instead of "back."

So anyhow, since I couldn't punch out the pins that didn't exist, I skipped that, and then since the trigger wishbone linkage is just part of my trigger I couldn't remove that, since basically the entire fire control group was still intact I couldn't remove the pin retainer spring (6:37 in the video), so FINALLY I got to where they punch out the forward pins (i.e. the axles for the hammer and trigger) (6:43) using the punch included in the cleaning kit. Mine didn't come with a cleaning kit but I have a punch that is 1/16" at the tip... but the pins didn't just punch out; in fact for the life of me I can't make them budge. I'm pretty sure the problem is not that I'm just weak.

So that's where I'm stuck. Anybody have any ideas?? Much thanks...

There is a retaining spring that sits on the trigger retaining pin and the hammer retaining pin. I believe the loop goes though the trigger pin. Lift up the end that locks the hammer pin in and you should be able to push the pin out. Not that hard. Just take a closer look at it.

Deussne is correct. Regardless of trigger design it will implement the same retaining spring in an unconverted Saiga. Its long with a little curl at the end. You can see it being removed in the picture below. You need to bend it so it isnt resting against the trigger pins. Demo it if you have to you wont be reusing it.
