So I have been tossing around something to do and I think I finally figured out something that will offer a challenge and be some fun at the same time. I have been trying to figure out what to do with my PSL, sell it or mess with it some... I have decided to mess with it some.
With the lack of replacement stock sets floating around on the net I am considering making my own.
I found a company that makes a urethane resin that is extremely durable and impact resistant (when fully hardened it has a strength of 2,700 psi, not sure what the recoil force is but I am thinking that is more than strong enough). Plus this stuff can be colored when you mix it up so I can make it black and not have to paint it up after wards.
So the idea is to cast molds of my existing furniture, or be more daring carve the mold into a more custom design, and get the resin pouring

Indeed! It will cost about $100 in supplies, resin is not cheap stuff
I am going to have to think this out really well as I am thinking of adding an adjustable cheek riser which should be easy enough by setting so screws in the epoxy for the cheek piece, then just figuring out how to bolt it and make it move through the stock

I am already thinking of making the lower hand guard wider on the bottom, more like the stock pattern on some heavy bbl sniper systems.
I cant think of the name of this kind of wood. But its used in movie props and such. Its light and easy to carve, local craft store might have it. Would be cake to mock up the stock you want then make a cast of it. Just a thought, dont know how common it is or cost wise.

I think as this will be a test run I will be making an exact cast of the stock furniture, probably a silicon cast so that it can be removed and retain the shape without warping like plasticine would. We'll see how it goes
Probably going to order the stuff in next month. If this goes well I will try something more daring.

I'm not a PSL owner (though people might mistake my AES for one in it's current form), but I'm really excited to see the results of this.
You and me both lol. I think I found the right material, strong and heat resistant and rigid. It is just figuring out how to best go about doing this that will take sometime to figure out.
I like the way the stock furniture looks but would just like something different. I will definitely be changing the style of the hand guards though. I am going to use modeling clay to add material to the handguard to change them up a bit for the casting. I want to make the lower a flat bottom piece and almost triangular kind of like this,
Only angled more. It should make for a nicer platform for off-hand or sand bagging. Being rounded is kind of unstable.
