| My Old Dog
I type this with tears in my eyes. There's a few members who have remembered me talking about my Pom named Scotty. He's the first and only dog I have ever owned in my lfe.Seabeescotty bought him for me and he's way over 10yrs old. Today I noticed that his bottom didn't look right. It looked to me that it was some what blown out. It's common for that breed of dog when they age.I know what I need to do BUT it's ripping my heart out.I dont want him to feel pain. What I'm trying say is I need feed back from all you and keep in mind my heart is hurting.

The best thing to do is take your beloved pet to the vet. I had to take Herbert to the vet because he became plugged up. It seem's some animals rectom's loose's mucle and what happens is what you described. Herbert did'nt have that happen yet but the vet made his roll out to clean him out. I could'nt believe what I was seeing. The vet made his go back in though and maybe a vet can do that to your pet. Possible your pet can be stitched back in place or can be put back like it's suppose to be and you probably need to learn how to do it. God Bless you, I'll say a prayer when I go to bed in a few minutes...Mike

Best thing to do is take your pooch to the vet. It just might be something that can be resolved? I honestly don't know but I truly feel for you. My wife left one day for a family pass to Six Flags and came home with a dog instead. lol Story for another time. But my point, since I'm on disability and she works, me and Ruby have become very very attached. The dog always follows me and comes to me and listens to me. So I know and dread the position you're in and how you feel. You've already admitted you know what you have to do and I'm sure then you also know you'll do that rather then let your beloved pooch suffer. Because you love him. I'm sure when you have to make the decision you'll make the right one. And yes it will hurt and cut deep and for a while you'll grieve. But, as you know time heals all wounds. And you also know you will never forget him because he will always be in your heart. I sincerely hope you don't have to make the decision anytime soon. But I know if and when you do, you will because you love him and that pain you feel is the love you have for him. I've already taken the time to say a prayer for you and him.

I truly know how you feel, I really do. But honestly, I think anyone with a pet or that loves animals knows how you feel. You have my sympathy for having to make the decision. But like I said, I think the love you have for him will makes that decision, just a tiny little bit easier then if he wasn't suffering. And the pain and hurt you feel is because of and out of the love you have for him. At this point you have to take him to the vet and get their diagnosis and recommendation. Then, based on that, and how you feel, decide what is best for your loving, loyal and devoted friend. He's a good looking little Pomeranian. I like his color. And yes I saw the picture is of when he was younger.

I know exactly how you feel CalifgirlinOK. I've been blessed to have many, not just good, but GREAT dogs in my life, and I just lost one of the best recently. My beloved pet became ill suddenly, and went downhill fast. She was very brave and tried to be strong, but in the end, her illness overpowered her, and I buried her in my yard. I'm still picturing her sweetness and affection for me, and her silly quirks that I loved so much. I miss her terribly. Now for the bottom line: Do the right thing by your dog. You will never regret doing the right thing, only the wrong one, and the wrong thing is to let your pet continue to suffer. Good luck, God bless, and be strong. Your dog is counting on you. You have my sympathy.

Take her to the vet. ALL IS NOT LOST!! Let the vet help you make a intelligent decision. He'll know what can be done for your baby..My beloved yellow lab Chance was getting old, and I took her through the farm lanes to the market to get her a ice cream. She was riding in a small garden cart. When we got home, a distance of 2 miles, she couldn't walk. The jostling around in the cart must have hurt her somehow. She wouldn't move, and I knew the end was coming. I dug a hole in the backyard for her, crying all the while. The next day I took her for the last ride to the vet, and he told me she just has some arthiritis in her hind legs, and he can give her a shot to see what would happen. Well, she got that shot, and was acting like a puppy within 48 hrs! I covered up that damn hole, crying AGAIN with joy!!!! She lasted another 2 months, going blind with diabetes. I gave her her insulin shot twice a day, and she never complained. She then lost control of her bladder, and I could no longer be selfish in my feelings. I had to let her go. I still carry the final bill, dated 12-03-04 @ 8:41am, in my inside coat pocket, the date and time of her put down. She sits on the mantel, in a little urn, for that final trip with me. I geuss that's why I have 4 dogs......Sorry for carrying on... I hope all turns out well for you and the dog... Best wishes..Loren

That trip to the vet is a small investment compared to the lifetime of loyalty and friendship she has given. Her problem can likely be fixed.

Man that is tough. I know what it feels like to lose a dog, harder than losing human family in my opinion. I love my dog Patton, missed him the most while I was away, I'd be devastated if anything happened to him. Take care and think positive!

A vet is the answer. The vet can take care of it, plus show you howto handle it in the future. And if you clean it out on a regular basis, doesn't get sore or cause any problems. Now, having said that, my wife had to do it. I couldn't. ![]() |

Its hard to know that ones animal friend is ailing take her to the vet and hope for the best. I have watched my sister go through 1 cat and several dogs (shelties) they don't live as long as we do so we must be prepared to let them go at some point. Remember all your friends are here for you.
