Hey guys, I just bought my first Mosin last week. A guy from work was selling them for 88 bucks apiece and I figured where can I go wrong? The one I picked out was a 1943 from Izhevsk. He has so far gotten 60 of them and mine was the only one that he has seen so far with matching numbers on the barrel, bolt, butt plate, trigger guard, and bayonet. After cleaning all the cosmoline off her, I took her out for a little shoot. It was kind of neat thinking that the last time this gun was used it was probably staring down a bunch of germans. She shot good for an 88 dollar gun. I may have to buy another one now. Here is a pic of the rifle(minus bayonet) and the 2 targets I shot at.
LOL it WON'T be your last! Congrats on your first Mosin. Is this one counterbored? I wouldn't think it affects accuracy at all. Looks like you already figured that one out

Well, I wouldn't say it is impossible, but more often than not, original serial numbers are either ground off and re-stamped, lined out and new ones stamped on or else they are "electropenciled" in which means basically the serial numbers are written instead of stamped. If you don't have an arsenal refurb stamp on it, then it is more likely all of the parts are original to the rifle. If you do have an arsenal refurb stamp on it, then it is likely some of the parts were changed for whatever reason.
