But the whole reason I collect is the fun of shooting an Enfield against a K98. Or a Type 99 Arisaka against an 03A3. I do this a lot. Just to see how the different rifles do against each other. I dont know everything about a certain type of rifle like Jimb or Orlando knows the M1 Carbines. Or Alan De Enfield knows Enfields. But I know a little about a lot of rifles.
Everyone has their own reasons for owning a firearm. It may be a .22 cus they like to blast squirrels. Or a .600 Nitro for that Giraffe skin rug they want. Mine is WWII long rifles. Sure I have 20 or so handguns and 20 or so shotguns. But the old heavy duty battle rifles just hold a special place in my heart. My rifle were used to take a LOT of lives. My rifles were used to save a LOT of lives. My rifles were used for both good and evil purposes.
I think closest on collecting types me and brudder Mooseman are of the same philosopy. And close to the same number rifles. Although not close to the same amount of ammo.
As for how I got them. I bought Mausers for $30 back in 2000. I bought Enfields for $100. each. And yes I go to pawn shops, auctions, gunshows, big box stores, flea markets, garage sales and any other place I can think of to find more for less. I bought 4 H&R shotguns from a guy for $40 each. I see others on here buying the same way.
I paid $475 for one M1 Garand and $100 for the other.

Since Capt'n Mil Cill brought up the cost of some of his guns, I'm curious to know what is most expensive/valuable gun folks have in their collections.
The most I've paid for a gun in my small "collection" of 15 guns is $1250 for a pre-WWII Marlin Model 90 O/U .410 bore. All of the others (new and used) were under $900.

My collection is fairly modest in comparison to Capt'n and others on this site.
The great thing about this site is you can get a good review on almost any firearm before you buy it, from an actual owner.
By the way Capt'n, I was able to get the USGI mags to work in the Tommy Gun, thanks.

I thought at first it was just Shotguns the post was about and I've only got 6 & a half of those, counting a spare set of barrels as a half. 3 x 410, 3 1/2 x 12g. other guns only around the 20 mark but I reckon I'm doing all right for living in the UK where they don't like guns.

I have about 30, maybe a few more. Certainly not less. My next purchase will be a second gunsafe.
