Those of us who believe that the President and the First Lady of the United States are supposed to be dignified representatives of the nation feel uncomfortable by Obama's ongoing appearances on TV shows presidents should not be wasting their time on (Arab TV, The Tonight Show, etc.) as if he were a movie star plugging his new picture. Any day now I expect him to give one of those Barbara Walters hour-long interviews on ABC.
Now Michelle "I spent most of my life ashamed to be an American" Obama is getting into the act. Take note of this bit of information from Entertainment Weekly, November 13, 2009 edition in "What to Watch" on page 91:
"Season Premiere: Sesame Street
The 40th season of the iconic kids' show boasts a new CGI segment, "Abby's Flying Fairy School," and the year's guest luminaries will include Hugh Jackman, Adam Sandler, Jimmy Fallon and First Lady Michelle Obama. Hey, if she can work with Joe Biden, she can work with Big Bird."
This is not Jackie Kennedy hosting a TV special on the history of the White House. This is not Barbara Bush sitting down with a reporter on Sixty Minutes to discuss her campaign for children's literacy, or Nancy Reagan pushing her agenda of "Just Say No" in PSAs. This, plain and simple, is ridiculous. Her appearance on this show will not encourage children to learn to read and count. It will not encourage more people to tune in the show; you either watch it or you don't, depending on whether you have kids. This is pure and simple ego-boosting and doing something just because she can due to her temporary position.
If it were Barbara Bush appearing on Sesame Street, I could believe it was about the children; her commitment to childhood literacy is/was well known. But Michelle Obama? Sorry. It just doesn't ring true to me. I feel it says more about her ego and that of her husband than it does about any commitment to children's education she might have.
It's all about image. There just trien to get people to like them or to see there human.
It does'nt make me any differents what they do...I still think they should be sent to Mars and left there...A.H
More of the neverending campaign, by the folks who are at their very best when patting themselves on the back, and explaining how they and their goofy ideas are the best thing for us little people!
