What does Springfield say? I don't know about their XDs, but they don't recommend it on 1911 with less than 5" barrel. It has to do with slide speed, timing, reliability, etc.

The owners' manual has some ammo restrictions, but none of this discuss +P ammo. I would believe an occasional diet of FACTORY +P ammo from reliable commercial sources not to be a problem, but I would E-mail Springfield to be sure (should be available on its website). Buffalo Bore Ammunition has also been very good about their customer service and responding to e-mails I've sent them -- you could also check with them to see if their .45 ACP +P is suitable (which I think it would be).

NO MATTER WHAT ammo you choose, you must ops test it to ensure it functions reliably in your autoloader. This is part of owning and carrying an autoloader.

I have shot +P ammo through both my XD's, .40 and 9MM and my XDM 9MM with no problems. I don't do it rugulary just wanted to try about every ammo I could find to see what worked best. For range I usually use my own handloads and for protection I use Golden Saber. My Springfield .45 is a 1911 not XD and I use FMJ S&B's for protection in both my .45's (1911 and Millennium). If I had a .45 XD I'd still use S&B. I just like FMJ for a .45 round but that's only my opinion.
