moosemike is correct, the only place where the .450 has a ballistic advantage is factory ammunition, the .45-70 can be handloaded to equal .450 ballistics.
| Then what's the ring for?I read that it is to keep the higher pressured .450 from being chambered in a 45-70 that's can't handle the 450's pressure.

You must remember, most .45-70 factory ammo is loaded way down, due to the old trapdoor rifles and such that are floating around, it is simply for liability reasons.

I've shot a moose with the 450 Marlin and it's a great cartridge. I haven't taken anything larger than a deer with the 45-70. Don't know if I ever will. I started out a .30 cal. guy and went through a big bore phase. Now I'm back to my .30 cals. I got tired of seeing game out of range of my big bores.

I have a MarlinSS Guide Gun in.45/70. I added a set of XS Ghost Ring Sights, and a large loop lever. It's great for deer or hogs. Also I don't handload, but have 300 grain to 540 grain ammo options. Best of all it's easy to handle and to me is a darn good-looking weapon.

45/70 Gov't on a TC Contender pistol or rifle, whichever I feel in the mood for. 18" muzzle brake on the bad boy,325 grain Hornady's does the trick. i also use my 44 mag with a 12" barrel n a 45, same set up.all with a scope just forinsurance. I couldnt believe how much I shake when a deer is walkin at 70 yards with my pistol. I missed a monster last year cus I was stupid and didn't try to stop him. so far this year, strike out! haven't seen a good buck yet, and spent 20+ hours just this week in my stands.

These bullets are available now and I have been thinking about reloading them. I have a ruger #3 like new condition and it'll handle a heavy load. A good start to reach that 450 performance would be greatly appricated.

why I asked about strength. A strong rifle
in .45-70 is awesome.

I have hunted this year with a 45-120 shiloh sharps exclusively that I have been building for 2 years. 30" barrel 1 in 14 twist, 2.5 lb trigger, Nightforce 5.5-22X56mm scope. It is leagal here for muzzle loader as well. Pushing a 300 grain experimental tipped boat tail at 2950fps and have already made one shot just over 400 yards and it has killed 5 of 5 shot at this year with the longest tracking job less thatn 10 yards. . It is a shooter as I have hit a veana sausage can at 500 yards with it 2 out of 3 shots the other one was 4" low. It has taken alot of work and if the manufactures will start listening to the shooters and hunters and start making 26" and longer .458 rifles with a 1 in 14 twist there is no telling what can be done with all the popular .45's. I have high hopes for Bergara as they are already making a contender barrel with a 1 in 14 twist. Same with the bullet manufactures as there are allot of single shot big bores out there that need better bullets.

turkn8r1 that sounds like you have a great setup
there. Hard hitting and accurate. Anything in
North America's not safe with that thing's
pointing at it. A friend of mine has a Quigley
model .45-120 that he has shot a few times
and says it kills at both ends.

You ought to do just fine with your .444 Marlin. It is a bulletproof rifle and a fine caliber, with careful handloading you can achieve power factors from "poof" for punching neat holes in paper, to boar-busting sledgehammer effect.
I love my guide gun.

The 45-3.25 and the 50-3.25 have always intrigued me...
