Jim | I see what you're getting at. All I was saying was that if I can hit the target decently with stock parts, and "slop" was something I had learned to overcome and adapt to, spending a couple hundred on extras wasn't that high on the list.

That's what I did with my DPMS LPK, the trigger is a lot smoother and lighter but it still has that long trigger pull. Look up the 15-minute trigger job on ar15.com, but don't cut and bend the springs, just the smoothing part.

Lapping compound (a paste made from industrial diamond dust and grease) is what they use to match engine valves to the surfaces in which they seat, in order to "seat" the valves, a lot of spinning motion on the part of the valves is required....I don't know how you hope to refine the trigger by just "putting lapping compound" in it. If you look at your trigger assembly you will find 2 mating surfaces that break apart from each other when you pull the bang-switch. These are the surfaces you want to hone. Find a set of good jeweler's files and some very fine white honing stones....and a good machinist-grade beveled square. Basically you want to remove as little material as needed while ensuring that the breaking surfaces are dead square and smooth as glass.

When pulling the trigger, make sure the hammer doesn't hit the receiver. I did this twice and all the grittiness is gone and the trigger pull is much lighter.

I went out to the shop today and did the "ten minute trigger job", complete with the cut and bent springs. Friggin' love it. Forget what I was saying about "stock is good enough". It didn't cost me anything, and it improved my pull dramatically. No problem popping the primers with the lightened hammer spring, either.
One thing I would highly recommend to ANYONE doing any trigger work, is to MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THAT TRIGGER PIN SEATED PROPERLY!
When I took Sugar out to the range this afternoon to test out the new trigger, I was half-way through the first mag when unbeknown to me, the trigger pin had walked out of one side of the receiver. It set the trigger and disconnector at a slight angle, which allowed the hammer and trigger to function...but not the disconnector. Four rounds flew downrange before I was able to let off the trigger! People kinda look at you a bit funny when you do that...

Thanks for the info, dammit! Now I have to go get a match trigger! | Well I got her together Friday night after work and I put the trigger in it that was sent by Del-Ton. Ran short of funds as I always seem to do. Zombie hunter and I must have grown up in the same trailer park (ha, ha)
It was a great feeling though, my first build and it was sucessful at the fireing range on Saturday afternoon. I'm very pleased with myself and I want to thank everyone for all the advice. It has been helpful and educational to say the least.
I will post some pics tomorrow. I actually went to Del-Ton on a recomendation from this site . . . so all in all, you guys really know your stuff and where to find stuff.
Cheers,
Stew Man

Use the coding with the brackets around it (similar to the quote coding when you quote a message) and paste it in your reply. Your photos should show up from there.

Jim | OK, looks like I learned something today, I'll give it a try. I'll have to look back and see if a vid of that 10 minute trigger job is linked....if not you know where to put it

Uploading them to this site was easy, there has to be a similarly easy way to get them to this thread.

ok stew, go to photobucket.com, make an account and all that, upload your photos, then put the mouse pointer on one and it should highlight and list a bunch of code below it. you copy the IMG code and just paste it in the message and poof! picture.
