I've been thinking about getting the synthetic stock and scope mount for my 91/30. I love the original stock, but would need the bent bolt and scope mount, also the cosmoline smell would not be good. The price seems reasonable and it looks like good quality. Any input?
I picked up the ATI stock for the 91/30.... went back to the original because it was cheap plastic and was less than attractive. I picked up the scope mount that replaces the rear site and a long eye relief scope and it was perfect.
If you have cosmo in the wood... just heat it up and let the cosmo work itself out overnight. I have seen "ovens" made with metal trash cans and light bulbs that do the job well.
You are referring to the products made by ATI. Alot of guys here are probably going to bash both the mount and the stock. I happen to own both. The stock I have on a M44, which fits perfectly and I also have the mount installed on a 91/30. The mount is solid and works as advertised. The only part of the kit that I would deep six is the replacement bolt handle. Seriously, you will be very disappointed with it. Better to just have the boltman mod your bolt.
The only real gripe I have about the setup is the fact that your iron sights will be unusable, if I had it to do over again I think I would have invested in a PU setup so I could use my iron sights, makes sighting in a little easier.
Good Luck
Search on the Internet, starting with Numrich. Someone is making a Monte Carlo stock out of American walnut for the Mosin Nagant. Last time I saw one it was going for about $90. It will let you make a sporter out of your MN without having to bubba anything, as the walnut stock is already inlet for the MN barreled action and magazine. You have to remove the barrel bands, which you can do by drifting the front sight out, but that's about the hardest part of the changeover. If I can get far enough ahead, I'm going to do this to Natasha, my MN that will shoot to MOA.

i will warn you from my experience the stock even though it might fit, you may not be satisfied with it, when I had one on my mosin I found harder when i cycled the bolt, and an overall cheap feeling too.
the major benefit from it is its length of pull. and i am serious when i say this it has a better balance for weaker people, my mother cant hold up a stock mosin and aim it for long due to its weight, but the ati stock she could keep it up for much longer...no science to this just what I observed.
Well I think there are some mixed reviews. If you got an ATI stock you didn't have to modify, then I am surprised. The one I bought I had to modify so it would fit. My 91/30 was a single shot until I cut some room for my interrupter spring so it would cycle rounds, and so I could load the magazine. But, I think I would like to try my luck at bedding the stock in this configuration, see how well I can get it shooting with my LER scope on it.

Never had any problems cycling the bolt with the ATI, Iron_Colonel I actually had to do the same thing with the interrupter area on the stock, I used a dremel. Mine would load and feed ok, the reason for my mod was the use of stripper clips, I just couldnt get my clips to feed well enough, the interuppter was hitting the inside of the stock, I ground out the area and it worked alot better.
I am a hard use guy, probably why I own Mosins, the ATI is weather proof and pretty tough, selling points for me. I could see how it would feel cheap if one were used to a traditional Mosin wood stock.
the drill bits that come with the bolt handle suck. the original mosin bolt is hard to drill into, my uncle welded my turned down bolt on after we couldn't drill through the original bolt.
richards stocks sells different style stocks including the monte carlo classic rollover I have one on the basket case 91 I converted into my deer gun....It can out pretty damn good I think...
