A g&g soldier

Jonathan Rector who most of us know as 99z28monster, is now serving our country in Iraq.
His address is:

line 1: Rector,Jonathan
line 2: 2-10th mtn div LI 2bstb Charlie Company
line 3: COS Hammer (loyalty)
line 4: APO AE 09308

A brief letter or even a card is wonderful at mail call for our men and women overseas. Lets give him a nice "touch" from home. (He likes books and magazines)

If you are sending a box through parcel post, it needs to be mailed by this Friday to get there by Christmas. If you up it to Priority Mail, those get put on the plane first and you have until the first part of December to get it sent by Christmas.

I have gotten people from my work that are bringing in some items so we can ship, hopefully this week.

... also, keep in mind that "Customs' opens parcels ... so be careful what you send. Maybe another G&G member who has been to the sandbox can shed some light on the objects that these brave men and women are in need of, such as baby wipes, etc. to at least help them be more comfortable.

Regards,

I am sending bar soap and such that he requested specifically. Plus some snack foods. There are plenty of lists on the Internet with great ideas.

Got my first donation, 12 paperback Westerns.

Just make sure the bag is sealed or put it in a freezer bag, then box it up.

Our grandson said he really appreciated the baby wipes & especially socks we sent. I guess they can't always get to the laundry as needed & clean dry socks are nice, particularly in hot weather.

Thank you all so much for caring about us deployed troops. It means alot to me to log on and see this thread. I cant tell you enough how much it is appreciated.

Please keep in mind that if you send stuff it takes about a month to reach us if not longer. Just wanted you all to know that way if you wanted to send perishable items you can have an idea on how to wrap them. As far as baby wipes go, they are not really needed here at my fob. We have showers but no place to buy toiletries, so that is an issue. If you would want to send soap, toothpaste and items like that it would be great. Also there is nothing to do here with our down time so reading is big. If you have any old magazines and books that you wouldn't mind sending that would be great. I personally read westerns as a favorite, but like a true book worm I will read just about anything.
I will never be able to write in words how grateful I am for folks like you all. It really makes me proud to be over here doing what I do for yall back home. Thank you all so much!

My neighbor has been sending boxes via USPS Priority since the war began. Their group sends like 20 boxes a month on a good month, depending on the amount of donations they get. They even tell you if you want to give to cover the postage to make the check out to the USPS. It's a good thing to show our appreciation to the people who serve our country in the military.

From previous experience, I would recommend Charmin (soft) and any and all reading material. From old Sunday Times to Old hunting and fishing rags !!

If your feeling generous, send beef jerky for the joes, and GUM !! To hand out to the kids !! I have fought in a handful of countries, and all kids LOVE gum !! Some of my best G-2 came from gum chewers !!

If you send chocolate, freeze it !! Another Ginormous gift is Copenhagen !!When I was deployed, my wife sent 4 sleeves to hand out even though I didn't dip !! It's a huge winner !!

The number one is mail !! I guess this might have changed with the new electronic era !! Where they email and text each other day in and day out !!

But to stand at mail call, and actually get some, is soooo uplifting you cannot belive. So you guys that believe you have nothing to add, just send a postcard !!

I am planning on getting some bar soap, dental floss, toothbrushes, toothpaste and deodorant. I have a source of someone that works for Colgate Palmolive who can get me the stuff at employee cost. Not sure how much they are going to get me. But I can alway send more later. I also have 12 western paperbacks and around 20 gun and hunting magazines. Plus any bags of candy I can get before Friday. People at my work have been donating money too for me to buy things.

Jonathan, if you have any special requests, now is the time to get them in.

The one thing a fella out here really wants but is dang near impossible to get is some venison jerky. You wonderful folks seem to have the bases covered as far as what is needed. Thank you all so much for doing this.

I am bumping this in case anyone forgot about it. Still time to send something for Christmas.

My box is going out tomorrow, all 37 pounds of it. I had a lot of wonderful people at my work bring in some great items to add to the box. You shouldn't run out of reading material for a while and there are tons of snacks and some games and some stuff to keep you cleaned up.
