I don't understand that guy. He does the most illogical things. He is either crazy like a fox, or just a nutty dirtbag. I know he had been seriously ill, but the reports didn't say anything about him losing his mind.

Something Kim Jong Il ought to think about is that his army hasn't really fought a war since the 1950s; and then they were getting their butts kicked badly until the ChiComs came in on their side once the US and UN troops got mobilized and the NKs outran their supply lines. Meantime, the ROKs have fought in a whole bunch of little wars and have some of the best-trained and most experienced fighting men in the world. If he's stupid enough to cross swords with South Korea, they will stomp him and his brainwashed robots flat like a pancake even before we get into it on the ROKs' side.

i would surmise it has something to do with "fear and intimidation" I.E...
fear: if you push him to hard he will do something drastic and stupid all rolled into one...
