Maybe I'm exaggerating, but with the wars and the gun ban phobias, seems like everyone's hoarding it all and it's hard to find or expensive? I used to go to the firing range fairly often with an ar-15. Now if you have one, how do you manage to still shoot, or have you stopped? Or you have a secret ammo stash to play with? Reloading?
Get it outdoor world 200 rounds for $90 bucks twice a month. 500 rounds of 7.62x39 a month at 135 dollars and winchester .270 20 rounds a week 16.75 a box.not even got into my 1911 .45 and my 9mm pistols.
I rolled a1000 this weekend. Always have some handy. Free brass, 18 cents for the round and 5cents for the primer and 8 cents on the powder. 31 cents a round.
I reload them but I have to refigure cost for todays components. that may take a while tho. I'm still sitting on about 12 pounds of powder and and somewhere around 6 or 7 thousand primers that was purchased before all this crap started a year ago. I have cut back a bit on my shooting because I dont want to have to go on search missions for components anytime soon at these prices. It may still be another year before these prices start falling. at least our ammo prices at the store have started coming down in the past month so thats a good sign.
I don't have a .223 but I've found that .22lr makes a good substitute for the .308 and .30-06 ammo I normally shoot. That's one of the reasons I bought a 10/22.
I haven't ordered ammo shipped, maybe I should. I don't know if it's just this area or what, but it's hard to find it here. The thing is there is a military base here and the outdoor range open to the public offers a lot of free ammo to serving military members. The membership is also free to them, I think. Some of these guys are very into it and serious and religious shooters, which is understandable given that if they get put in combat it's life and death. Then there is the police range that is open to the public on some days. The membership is much cheaper there. But even if reloading was available to me, they do not allow using reloads in there.
It's easy, just buy lots more than you need and can afford whenever it's available. I'm still using some of the 5k I bought a couple of years ago, plus I reload for my serious shooting.
question.......how does anyone know you're using reloads if you don't tell em??

I'm still shooting ammo I bought over ten years ago. I'm a sucker for a good buy on ammo, even calibers for guns I don't own yet. Plus I always try to buy in bulk (1000 or more) since it's usually cheaper.
I bought in bulk way before 2000 and was able to pick up even more good deals on bulk ammo after 2000 from people expecting TEOTWAWKI/Millenium bug to happen. Most was rifle ammo, .308 .223 & 7.62x39, and I bought over 10,000 rounds of each caliber from individuals for less than half the price back then. Now I'm down to about 8,000 rounds in each caliber.

Redrider, I always use my .22LR's for cheap practice and small game hunting, but this year I went a step further and bought an air rifle for the ultimate in cheap practice, and with a pellet trap, I can even shoot it in my basement if it's raining outside.

Who knows, but it's pretty well regulated in there. And the thing is I don't want to press my luck. If somebody finds out I'd probably get banned for life. I'd like to keep my options open. I go to an outdoor range for repetitive aim at self resetting targets, but sometimes it's nice to just be comfortable indoors with the well calibrated target distance machines. Maybe if I was a seasoned reloader I could get away with it, but I've yet to do it.
