WTB Muzzle Brake for a CZ 52...

Hi Everybody,

I'm new to this forum and was hoping for some assistance. I have recently purchased a CZ 52. It was constructed in 1954 (the last production year for this model) I got it with the idea of adding a number of after market parts and basically customizing it. My goals were to get the following things.

Hard Chrome refinish. (check)! Bought it that way! :?)
Stainless steel barrel with a threaded end. (check)!
Ivory (simulated :?() grips with a thumbrest and an extended slide release cut out. (check)!
Hardened steel cam rollers. (check)!
Extended slide release. (check)!
Replacement alloy firing pin. (check)!
Wolff 18lb main recoil spring. (check)!
Modified magazine heel plates. (check) sort of... I'm planning on getting ones for a Tokarev and modifying them.

I have acquired the following ammunition for use depending on the situation:

Military surlus FMJ 1000
Wolf JHP 100
Magsafe Frangible 32
Timbs Accerators 50

What I am MISSING is a COMPENSATOR for this gun. They used to be available at Markarov.com but that was a couple of years ago. I've seen pictures of them. Google CZ 52 compenastor and look at Images. I've noticed a few people mentioning on some of the forums that they have them. This is the final piece that I need that has me stumped. Anybody out there know where I can find one? Anybody want to make a tidy bit of profit selling me theirs? :?D I'm really hoping to finish up this project and get moving on to my next one which is to do a similar set up on at Tokarev TT33.

Thanks everyone! Any helpful suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

Jason

If you add a muzzle brake to the barrel the gun will be very long, it is already quite lengthy.... why not have it Magnaported?

Good question K. Here is how I see it. This gun will primarily be for target shooting, recreation, and possibly for home defense. It will be loaded with Magsafe Frangibles in the warmer months and JHP in winter so as to take into account the rounds penetrating power vs clothing worn in the Northeast.

Since it will not be used as CCW the length is of no great concern. My impression is that if the barrel is magnaported this COULD adversely affect the muzzle velocity (albeit minimally). Also since I already have the threaded stainless steel barrel I'm feeling kind of committed to going in the direction of a brake. Finally I'm too cheap to spend the money. I imagine that magnaporting would probably actually cost more than the $49.00 I spent for the barrel and whatever I need to spend for the actual brake.

Now if you want long... My next piece will be a Tokarev TT33 WITH a compensator. These are actually much easier to find and are available in a number of places including ebay!

My search is not going well however I have made arrangements for a fellow gun nut friend of mine who directs a very sophisticated metal shop at a local university to help me make one. I'll probably have to trade him something for it and let him be the first to shoot it but hey, who am I to complain!

Thanks for your question!

Are we talking a muzzle brake, or a compensator here?

I have a CZ 52.. and while the recoil is sharp, it's nothing like a .357 mag.
What it is .. is LOUD.. and if you do find your compensator, it will just be LOUDER.. and make a bigger muzzle flash. If you don't like the recoil, try a shooting glove, seriously.. I work with hand tools and my hands take a beating, so when I shoot, sometimes I just have to have to wear mine.

Stainless Barrel

jfoss1701 said he has a threaded stainless barrel for the 52. And where can one of those be found? I assume it is in 7.62x25.

I DO have a stainless threaded barrel for a CZ 52 in 7.62x25... I got it by searching online. I discovered that the now long gone Makarov.com used to sell them. Then while searching randomly for CZ 52 parts on ebay I found an auction by Karl who, in the description of the CZ 52 grips he was selling, mentioned that he was the former owner of Makarov.com. I sent him an email asking if he had any more parts available and in particular did he have a threaded barrel and a compensator. He had the barrel, his own personal fired once, which he sold me for $49.00 WITH the whole assembly including Harrington rollers. He did NOT have any compensators.

You have been briefed... ;?)

Muzzle Brake- Directs some of the expelled gases backwards to lessen felt recoil.

Compensator- Directs some of the expelled gases upwards to lessen recoil "rise". Supposed to help reacquire target faster.
