lol is anyone else watching this weeks episode of "Surviving Disaster" on Spike TV?
This weeks episode, "Global Viral Pandemic"
A nasty highly infectious and deadly form of bird of pig or swine flu has quickly spread throughout the world... A vaccine is 6 months away... Can you survive?
So far they have gone over pre disaster supplies, alternative food sources, initial grocery stores being over run, panic, degeneration of law and order as emergency services are over run, quarantining the infected, looting and riots, eventual loss of public services such as power, total societal collapse, scavenging outside your house for supplies, and eventually fortifying your house and defending your home from other armed groups trying to attack you for your supplies.
It was interesting when the host guy asked the homeowner he was with if he had a gun to defend himself with and the guy actually said "yea." and came back with a Remington 870 Tactical.
i have totally been missing this series i saw the first few then i have always been doing stuff when it comes on. It comes on tuesday nights on spike for me here in the AZ. that would have been a good one to see since this seems to be the topic of late around the world...

Move to the high peaks where the disease even in summer cannot survive.
THese influenzas don't survive outside their host for long regardless of external environment. The key is to not get sneezed at...isolation (the high peaks will be good for that)...quartantine etc...
so if the "super-bug" comes, albeit h1-n1 or a bird-flu reacurrance, what are you all going to do, are ya going to hunker down or get outta dodge... i would think that if ya tried to get out of the cities you would increase your chance of contracting the virus because of the amount of people who would have the same idea... me im staying put, i know my teritory here in my little town and i know what i plan on doing...
-going to board up my windows inside and out...
-secure front and back doors...
-set up security system with web cams...
-make sure all containers for water are full at all times, including bath tub (the house we have has 2 baths on has a tub the other a shower), just incase utilities are shut off...
-lock, cock and ready to rock all weapon systems, incase of looters...
-vitamins, hand sanitizers, rubber gloves, extra meds...
-extra food (this is a given, im already doing this)...
-stay in contact with Family and friends as long as communications hold out...
-and lots more, this is to name just a few precautions...

Sounds like a good plan A but do you have a plan B? In case the unexpected happens? What if the looters just set your house on fire or something?
Good suggestions, larmus. For me, I'm going to continue stocking food as needed, water (much of this because of potential infection), be sure my house is defensible, and practice my usual--good hygiene habits of washing hands, etc.

yes... save family first worry about house second...
-B.O.V. is behind a fence with gas in it (at least 1/2 tank, cuz its a daily driver aswell) and two 5gal. gerry cans, tools, spare and camping equipment at all times...
-B.O.B.'s for all family members (4 people) ready to go at a moments notice...
-mine and my wifes 1st, 2nd and 3rd line gear (part of the BOB's mentioned above) ready to go...
-extra food in 5gal pails ready to go (these are used all the time for normal cooking, all bulk items such as rice, beans, flour, sugar, powdered milk and instant cereals)
if we can we get to my parents... if we cant, we get to a town 30 miles southeast of here, a good friend has 5 acres with a well and then we wait and try to make contact with friends and family...
probably more things i can list, but just as a quickee reference this is what i would do...

A lot of health professionals are very concerned about this pandemic becoming a real deal.
A lot of state agencies are building COOP plans (continuity of operations plans) and training for this. I attended Incident Command training last year and it started with "suppose we told you something was coming that would cause food shortages because trucks couldn't make delivers, police, fire, and EMS outfits couldn't function because so many of their employees were down, and eventually there would be so many dead that trucks drove routes picking up the dead" the kicker was after they got you thinking that way they said "It already did once. 1918, influenza".
No need to panic, but follow the guidelines wash hands, hand sanitizer, etc...etc..etc.
On the brght side, now we all have an excuse not to go to malls during the holiday shopping season! :-) "Honey I love you way too much to risk your life by mixing you in with that crowd at the mall"
Here's a thought on the exterior windows, Hurricane panels like in Florida.
It's all about the wonderful immune system, and those who would attack it, it might be yourself.
Standing in line at the drug store may not be an option. Here's a few herbs you can stock up on:
Elderberry wine or extract.
Cinnamon
Oil of Oregano
Olive Leaf Extract
Grape seed Extract with Resveratrol
Garlic and onions
Cayenne Pepper [great gargle]
Hydrogen Peroxide
Colloidal Silver I put some in a nasal mister, and a Nebulizer and inhale it in my lungs before going out and after coming home. I apply in in my nostrils and it will even protect your ears. [Qtips]
It heal cuts & purifies water. I'm making herbal tinctures to replace heart meds in Ball Mason jars.
Immune system:
You must have a great immune system or all the natural remedies, or Pharmacy stuff won't help you.
Start building your system up now:
Exercise, and eat the foods that build the immune system up. Antibiotics and vaccines comprimise your immune system, so stay healthy.
Wash hands
Cover cough
Face mask, I have painters masks and a North full face dual element. But if it is weaponized, your back to your strong immune system again.
Food, water, shelter, protection.
G Green, you have saved our credit cards!

You set on your roof out of sight and if you see anyone approaching, throw your own napalm filled black eggs at them then shoot. Or just shoot. Most looters are cowards and after sustaining a 30 or 40 round barrage of 5.56 NATO and 7.62 Soviet they'll leave and probably not come back.
