Thumbs up Last day of fishing this season

Most likely my 2009 fishing season ended with today's fun. Caught nine crappie between 9" and 11" long. They're in the frig now, along with several other gladbags of fish, all dated and marked, ready for some good eating later on.

At the end of the venture today I added fuel stabilizer to my gas tank and ran it through the motor till the motor ran out of gas. As soon as I've done several standard winterizing chores I'll cover the boat up and park it for a long winter.

Now...it's time to get serious with deer hunting which I'll be doing this Saturday and Sunday.

Thumbs up

Most years we have snow by this time and the weather is much colder. We were fortunate to have a great fall, other than an ususually cool October.

This season I tried fishing several other places besides next to the concrete pier. Each time I got frustrated and ended up back where I could usually catch a good mess of crappies. Almost always used live minnows, other than a few times when I tried crappie jigs.

I know that many fishermen up north would laugh at quitting fishing just because it's below 40 deg F,...or when the waters frozen. I'll admit it, I don't enjoy being cold...well...unless I'm out hunting and I'm dressed properly. Then it seems like the natural thing to do. It's all a matter of attitude and being prepared for what you're doing.

Anyway, I like variety...so I'm hanging it up for this season and moving on to deer hunting and other hobbies for a while. Gives me a lot to look forward to next spring.
