The rules in base housing are a joke. Base housing isn't even on base in most cases anymore and ran by civilian companies that have a tomb of comnunist rules of what you cant do while they soak up all you housing money every month even if the place your living in isn't worth what your housing allotment is they take all of it. To own Firearms it first tells you to obide by local state laws and then tells you they must be registered, you need to have your firearms in one safe and ammo in another in opposite ends of the house, no carry or loaded weapons on the premises and so on.

The military and government are violently anti rights, ergo anti gun!

Familiy housing on post is not a Gun Free zone -- not by a long shot. If there are BS rules : Write Congress.
Guns , ammo , and other goodies are available at the PX on in some posts and the R & G Club on others . The BX at Eglin sells M4/AR magazines , the good ones. Most posts still have semi-decent hunting programs and off-duty target ranges.

That's not enough.
It's the old , tired , "Sporting purposes " BS from 1968 GCA . Tony Scalia called BS on that. He wrote , " ... for all lawfull purposes."
It will take an Act of Congress to cut thru the BS and start things moving in the right direction. If some 3 star wants to act like the Mayor of DC -- he needs to get fired.
Just like MacKiernan.

+1.
First there was the the 2 young troopers at the recruiting station in Little Rock , now the Fort Hood incident. Murdering traitors are not a new problem in this world. There was a significant assassination on 9/9 , 2001 that should have been another blip on the radar , another indication that something very serious was about to happen.

I think it's pretty obvious

by now that one needs to carry and be armed everywhere one can.

"But it's been that way for a long time. The Army brass bears some responsibility too."

True, but all that says is the (high level) brass are about as politically correct as any ACLU lawyer. Getting promoted requires it. Take a look at the current Chief of Staff's view of "diversity awareness" exceeding common sense and the murders at Ft. Hood which WOULD have been corrected years ago if the officers had not feared retribution if they had tried.

The slime ball even got regular promotions in spite of poor performance reviews, mostly due to his bad attitude, that would have gotten any white non-muslim (rightly) tossed.

There was another. Don't forget the sergeant who was a muslim convert that killed a few fellow soldiers several years ago in Iraq.
