Thumbs down Major Bummer Dude!

I have went and done it now! I sprained my left ankle last night at work...2 FREAKING days before Deer Season!!!!! I am NOT pleased, it's not a horrible sprain, I can walk on it, but it hurts like a &%^$%#&#@*^@!
I think as long as I don't have ANY lateral movement I'll be OK...I can step straight up and down without too much pain...LOL I told my wife that she'll have to do all the dragging and butchering of deer this year, judging by the look she gave me, I'll be doing some deer dragging with a limp this weekend!
It'll take a lot more then this to keep me out of the woods...I see folks on TV all the time hunting in a lot worse shape then I'm in!

On a good note, my cousin almost ran over a deer this morning, on the road directly in front of my hunting ground...he knows his deer, and he said it was pushing the Boone and Crockett level! I sure hope that buck trys crossing there Sat. morning...I'll have him "say hello to my little friend"! LOL

i did the same thing years ago playing indoor soccer on astroturf.....found out first hand why the pros hate the stuff.
20 years later, i can still lay my left ankle over at a perfect 90deg angle, and if i go play any sports i have to tape and wrap it.
take it easy on that ankle, they take forever to heal properly

Ottawa, sounds like you snapped a ligament/tendon...

Ankle injuries suck. I sprained my ankle a few months ago, and it still takes a good thirty minutes of activity to get it loose. And it still hurts...

thrillbilly you pray for me and I'll pray for you. I've injured where my leg is attached to my foot and it's causeing me a lot of discomfort.
I'm still doing what I need to do but I know sooner or later I've got to see about it.

Buy one of those suportive elastic things and slip it on, maybe it will help and don't drag any Deer.
Find away to haul it out.

\I feel your pain buddy. God Bless and I'll pray for you...Mike

I bowhunted near Thunderbird Lake outside of Norman, OK with a half-cast on my right foot. I climbed up and down an eight step ladder stand. I painted it OD green, and drug a 8 pointer about 900 yds to my Landcruiser. Get an ankle wrap and take aspirin before you go. Or splint your ankle outside of your boot and tape it all up so you don't aggravate the wound !!

My ankles hate me, I've sprained 'em both so I can relate. But for sheer JOY, go snap the ACL in one of your knees, that's an experience! The gift that keeps on giving.

AH - I do hope Thrill has some help this year iffin he can get one down with that little bitty ol' 130 grain two sebenty. BTW, a couple of years ago, Thrill and his buddy were dragging a deer through the woods and having a terrible time of it, when another hunter came along and said: "Hey, Fellas, if you'll drag that deer by the back legs instead of the antlers, the deer won't hang up so much in the brush". Thrill looked at the guy and said, " We know that, but we would just keep getting further and further from the truck".

Hope you both are healed enough to git er done.

LOL Forty...I'm using the ol 150gr dirty-thirty this year. The place I'm hunting is thick and overgrown, with a few openings, log roads, and ponds. I don't see any shot being over 60 yards max. Heck, I'll probably have the Mosins, 12G, and inline .50 out before the season is through! I do feel bad for the .270 though...I'm sure she'll go with me at least one day!

I spent today helping my Dad put metal roofing on a house, I stayed on the ground, no roofs or ladders for me yet, but my ankle is healing up more rapidly then I anticipated. I'm sure I won't be 100% by Sat. but it'll be alright I reckon.

Thrillbilly ,
here is what you can do . take some corn and a piece of a salt block with you when you go into the woods . place the salt block by your stand .when the deer gets close enough , toss him some of the corn .
while he is snacking on the corn , jump on his back and ride him back to camp before you shoot him .
this way , he will carry you and you won't have to drag him anywhere !!LOL!
If the salt and corn doesn't work , stand up straight and keep calling out "here deer ,here deer ,here deer ",.........LOL!

good luck buddy and make sure you show us the pics ...!

Thrill, you'll do fine. Buy a roll of ankle wrap and wrap it up before you go. Not too tightly though. Around noon, sit down summers and take your boot and sock off and rewrap. Leave it off for about five minutes and don't re wrap to tight.

Good luck buddy.

BTW Thrill, this year, (for me Tues, Wed & Thurs) I will be taking my Ruger #1 with some 45 70 handloads of about medium power. My brother will be carrying his Browning 45 70 hi wall. I will take my Sako 308 and probably use it a time or two for fun. Kinda of a change of pace for this year. Good luck to everyone who goes and be safe.
