And if he'd dropped his phone and steered into a group of children waiting on the bus, he still would have denied responsibility. He's just lucky nobody was hurt.

It says he was distracted by a bird and then he dropped his phone. He crashed when he attempted to retrieve his phone.
It sounds to me like his phone was the distraction. Serves him right.

I did crash rescue for six years. The swamp is the perfect place for him. Too bad it wasn't a really deep strip mine.
