Unbelievable...

I worked at a military boarding school for boys 7th - 12th grade for the past three years. I was just sent this link about a guy that used to work at the school with me. He was one of the deputy directors of resident life, and he would work with boys who needed counseling as a child psychologist. He was an Air Force Captain and recently moved over to the US Public Health Service and promoted to Lt. Commander. We are all still kind of taken back by this because he was so well liked and so good with the troubled kids. I can't remember how many times I've had him over to the house for a beer. This is one of those times where the whole "It only happens to other people" mentality shows itself...

Things like this brings much sadness to my heart. May God help the children to find peace and contentment in their hearts.

I am just hoping that none of the cadets at the school we worked at together were involved in this crap. Just goes to show that you never really know a person. I am sure they will find a special place for him in prison, maybe with a cell mate named "Bubba the Love Sponge."

We also had a guy from our unit (MP) hit for the same thing. I don't understand the attraction.

My first serious boyfriend got done last year for child molestation. I with this guy for 4 years, 18-22.... it makes me sick to the stomach. I wish i could forget him. Let alone the fact that i introduced him to the family whose daughter he got to the most.
I swear he doesn't want to look me up for old times sake or that gun license may be the shortest issue.

Well,

psychiatrist Keith Ablow has a very logical, yet interesting idea.

He calls it The Mask of Sanity.

Ablow's concept states there are people who recognize at some early point they have abnormal urges and desires for which society will imprison them should they act upon these desires. These people create a mask of sanity to move through the world. However, this is a terrible drain and after so many years they just can't keep up the mask of sanity. At that point they open themselves to a "mistake" or "misstep" that reveals their true state to the world.

This period of keeping up the mask is exactly why marriage partners, friends, co-workers, and so on really are in total shock when the revelation occurs.

So, don't blame yourself or anyone else for a failure to see through to the truth.

Hi G. Green

Thanks for the comment.

I do believe Dr. Ablow has hit an important nail on the head.

After all, we see at least weekly on the news a story of someone who does something horrific. Then we have the interviews with those who, at least, think they knew the person and just cannot believe what happened.

This is a very good post, with everybody having something important to say about child molestation. Everybody needs to offer up a prayer for the sanity of those children who were his victims. As said above, he'll shortly be "bubba's" playmate. It's good that he is off the streets.

I know it's a zombie resurrection, but here's an update on this guy.

I just got an update from a buddy of mine that worked with me and the offender at the school. He received a letter from him from prison just the other day. He is asking for a character reference for the judge and is facing 25 years in federal prison. He has plead guilty but he is claiming that this was brought on by PTSD! I told my buddy that I wouldn't write any reference for him at all, especially because of the PTSD crap! He is now sitting in federal prison in Seattle.

N.P.,

I was in a situation like this years ago.
I DID NOT, write a reference.
But, another friend did.

He was constantly hounded, by the inmates lawyer.
And received many court subpoena's.
It got so bad that he almost lost his marriage over it.

I am glad that I didn't.
As more condemning evidence, was found at a later date.

JMHO.

How sad. What goes around comes around in prison. He will learn the agony of molestation.

The "Chief" of the fire academy I went to ended up in prison for molesting his daughters. Apparently he was doing it for years and one day, I believe it was durning a holiday dinner, one of the girls snapped and let it all out on the table. He ended up doing jail time, how long I dont know but whatever it was wasnt long enough.

There's no way that i would write him a reference! The sad thing is that within two years, there were two people from that same school that were caught up in things like this. This guy, then another computer teacher who was playing around with his granddaughter. Both vouched for and defended by the president of the school... Another reason i hated that president.

Don't know about in your jail system but over here they are segregated from the main population for their own safety...

Wyld_Cat, over here unless they ask to be put in Punk City -- protective custody, alone in a cell 23 hours a day -- they are put in with the general polulation. They do not do too well as a rule in general pop. There are a lot of convicts who were molested as children in the American prison population.

What goes around, comes around. I personally am in favor of culling child molesters from the herd with a large caliber pistol bullet to the head.
