Since most people like Glocks, i think i made my decision just to buy a glock.
These are the Glocks that I've found...let me know if the price is good or too much....all brand new
Glock 17, 19, 22 for $535 ea
Glock 21, 30 for $585 ea
others that i found
Springfield XD9 sub comp. $535
XD40 $515
these are from the firing range i go to.
Question: can you negotiate prices?
OUt of all these, what would you buy. what would you recommend.

My vote goes to Ruger, but only slightly.
I don't like to recommend any imported brands such as Taurus, even though they offer a warranty, I have heard too many nightmare stories; but your mileage may vary.
| I bought a Taurus revolver in February, had it 3 months-broke,they had it 3 months then sent me a new gun,I had the new gun 1 month-broke,sent it in,they had it another month and sent it back, yeasterday I traded it along with my Rossi revolver for a Ruger P95.I vote for Ruger.Ruger is less expensive than even Taurus but is made in USA,has lifetime warranty and from what I hear, you will never need to send it in because they don't have problems.

OUt of all these, what would you buy. what would you recommend. | That doesn't seem that out of line on the G 17, 19, 22.
I think they could come down a bit on the 21 and 30.
If you check gunbroker.com there are several examples of Glock 17s with buy it now prices at or below $500
I'm not sure where you live, but I've had good luck at gun shows, so if that is an option, you might consider it.
For what it is worth, my buddy and I picked up our G32s (new in the box)with night sights added for about $485 out the door. I think we got a good deal because we bought several guns and paid cash.
The table we bought them at started around $550, and we haggled them down and got them to throw in night sights.
I don't know if your range will negotiate, but it doesn't hurt to ask. The prices I've seen at ranges have typically been a bit higher than other places (kinda like buying gas at the racetrack instead of somewhere else)
Either way, I don't think the prices are terrible, but you could probably do a bit better if you shop around, and I would be very happy with any of the guns you listed above.
Lastly, if you go with the G22 instead of the G17, you can always get a G17 mag and conversion barrel for about $100 and shoot either the .40 or 9mm. I don't know if it works the other way. As mentioned above that's what I did with my G32, and it saves me a lot of money at the range, and if I wanted I could get a barrel for the .40 and use my G32 magazines. That's one of the cool things about glocks, a lot of stuff is universal or compatible.

OUt of all these, what would you buy. what would you recommend. | Check out Bud's. You can do a lot better that the above prices there. Personally I'd stick with the XD over the Glock. Power Search - Find it Quick= Power Search - Find it Quick[3]/314/page/1/sort/5a

I would only add that a revolver is the easiest platform to learn good basic handgunning techniques on. It's easiest to maintain, which lends itself to good habits. I have started many a person on a revolver. Many have gone on to autos of course. But there's nothing more reassuring than a wheelgun on the nightstand. 357/38 is he hands on favorite. But if you go that way, shoot the 38's and end your session with a few cylinders of full house 357's. Shooting all day with 38's and then carrying 357's will leave you dry gulched on your second shot !!

Any of the calibers mentioned will do the job provided you do yours. As far as which make to go with I prefer the XD over the glock for civilian use. The reasons are 1) Fully supported barrel (takes reloads safely along with +p). 2) Non-hexagonal rifled barrel which means you can shoot lead should you choose. 3) Grip angle (depends on your preference).
If I were to use the pistol for military, government agency, or police duty I would seriously consider the Glock over the XD for the simple fact that the mags are interchangeable between your ankle piece/backup and your primary sidearm should you use the same caliber in each. There is nothing wrong with the Glock. I have had a few myself and I liked them both (g23 & g17). I don't think I will miss the g23 or consider another even though its an outstanding compact pistol with plenty of punch. I just don't care for the character of the .40 round myself. When I carry I lug a compact XD 45acp. I really like the fact that I have 11 rounds of 45acp in a compact pistol. Or I can use the full size 13 rounds mags which make the pistol a full size service with a total of 14 rounds on tap. Very versatile!
I say rent both the Glock and XD and choose the one you feel more comfortable with grip wise, and performance (accuracy). If you are going to be carrying the pistol which I assume you will. You seriously should consider the size of the full size weapons to be problematic for comfortable carry. I'm not saying you can't do it, but you will carry more often if you are comfortable. Oh and one last tid bit..honestly between the two the Glock has a shorter travel to reset. The XD trigger seems a little smoother, but not as short a travel as the Glock.
Good luck with choosing your purchase! Either way you will not be disappointed!

I have an XD45 and Ruger P95 9mm and love them both. The Ruger was the least expensive of my handguns, but I really like it. It's a little bit bulky and heavy, but for somebody who's worried about recoil, that bulk takes some of the sting off of it. Probably helps accuracy too.

Buying a handgun is like buying a pair of shoes.
Write down all mentioned brands and rent them if you can. Recoil from one round might feel different to you than it would someone else. For example, yes the 9mm has less recoil than a .45 but the recoil is a little different. To me the 9mm is more of a snappy recoil were as the .45 is more of a push. To me 9mm and .40 cal feel like they recoil MORE than a .45. The push of a .45 is easier for me to handle than the snap of a 9mm or .40. YMMV.
Buy the handgun that fits your hand the best. Make sure it feels good in your hand, you can reach all the controls without effort and can operate those controls easily.

Do yourself a favor and take the advice many have given. Rent as many handguns as you can, shoot them yourself and decide based on your experience. I gun I love you might hate and a gun you love I might hate. Doesn't make either of us right or wrong. Just means we like different guns. Glocks seem to be loved or hated with very few people who say they are so/so. Personally I don't like them but millions of people all over love them. Millions also hate them. Who is right or wrong there? Nobody. They just differ in opinion.

| My first handgun.....advice needed
Not to brag or anything like that, but price isnt a factor in my purchase. I need advice between 2 specific handguns that i have looked at and I like immensely.
My choice is down to a HnK USP45 and a Sig Saur P220 40 caliber.
Ive researched and saved the money for either one and I cannot decide between the 2. I would appreciate any and all suggestions as well as any advice.
As a side note, one selling factor is they both pack a punch and have a hammer decock mechanism built into them. As a child (7-8) i stupidly played with my fathers handgun and cocked the hammer. Being able to uncock it had me scared of handguns for a good 10 years but after a few courses on safety along with countless research, im over that fear. The decock mechanism definetly helped with that. I also will keep it safely locked away from anyone except my wife.

I also prefer the .45. Both the German/American companies make fine handguns and their price reflects it. The 220 is actually .45 as well. The Sig 250 modular handgun system might also be of interest to you. I cannot afford either manufacturer's guns at this time but if I could I'd go with the Sig.

Another vote on the 357 mag. You can also get a good Taurus brand new for $400-$500 with 3"-4"bbl.
