Sad that so many drove by without helping.

I pulled up to offer my assitance to a young lady once. As I got out to see what the
problem was, 2 guys came running up out of the ditch at me. I was fast enough to
hop back in the car before they got there. I still stop and offer assitance but I'm a
little more cautious about it now.

Here in Alaska, the rules are a bit different.

When a person beaks down, it is a life & death situation.
Last night, it was -24 deg. F
The temp. has now warmed up to MINUS -10 deg. F.

We get these city folks, who decide to take a drive.
"out to the country".
And they don't bring "survival gear".
(hats, gloves, boots, jackets, blankets)
And they could freeze to death before a tow truck or Trooper arrives.

Good looks, should not make a bit of difference.
When it comes to someone stranded.
You stop for the good looking ones, as well as the ugly people.

Hells Bells.
If it did, I would of been dead years ago!

NOTE:
Even Miss America, looks fat in Carharts.

Were is Al Gore, when you need him.
Alaskans, FOR Global Warming!!

Ditto. It's just what people do - or should. I'm not my dad, who once rebuilt the top of an engine along the side of a road using tools and things he had in the car with him to get someone back on their way; but I can change a tire or patch a not-too-badly split water hose, assuming the person(s) who need help aren't too paranoid to accept help when it's offered. If they are, I just go on my way and call 9-1-1 to send the police to help them on the "life is too short for this abuse" theory.

If you ask me, people are just shy about looking foolish if the person needs no help but just stopped for some reason. It's not the easiest thing in the world to gauge a situation with a glance or passing by. Now, if the person is screaming for help, there would be no doubt. And I think most men have been in situations where a woman was approached for a random reason and took it in a way different way. I can remember at least one time where one girl thought I was hitting on her when I asked for the time. That sort of thing is annoying.

thats why i mentioned that it was a very warm day and i was stuck in the sun. If i wanted to stop it would have been 100 metres back down the road away from the intersection to stand in the shade. I suppose it may have looked like i was waiting to meet someone but seriously, bike up on the footpath, in the sun... not really the place i woudl choose to wait.

Even when i was squatting beside the bike fixing the split fuel line no one thought to ask if i was ok. Now i wouldn't have been doing that if i was waiting for someone. If anyone looked it was obvious i was working on something on the bike.

Ever thought of moving to Texas? Folks will still stop to help around here and I've even had a few refuse payment for gas, rides to the gas station, etc...

There is nothing wrong with beer. But I do like the way you think.
