When a chick has her motorbike pushed up on a footpath at a major intersection and nobody asks if she needs help. Ok, 1 person did, eventually. And of course it was another biker. Then the old guy who lives on the other side of the intersection came over for a chat. Not that he could help.. i think he just had a captive audience to chat to. Back to what happened... Was about to pull out on to a major road and the bike coughed and died. Wouldn't start again. Have to push it back in to the kerb with little room for cars to get around and have another go at it. Upon inspection i find that the fuel line has perished just below where it joins on to the fuel tap. Every last drop in the tank had drained out. Luckily the split was enough to an end that i could easily continue the split across and reattach it to the fuel tap. And with my 2nd phonecall get hold of someone who could get enough fuel to me to get the bike to the service station to refill the tank. Thursday was the 5th or 6th anniversary of a bad crash at this same intersection. To say i didn't want to be there was an understatement. |

Better than half the time I stop to help I get a reaction like I am a serial killer. This is especially strange given my usual manner of dress and choice in vehicles - no hockey masks or windowless vans here. Sounds like a gallon/litre of petrol would have had you on your way.

In my experience, sometimes when a man offers to help a lady some of these ladies get mad like you've just insulted them or something. Has happened to me a few times at work. I've learned who is appreciative of offers of help and who isn't.

| Sadly, very sadly
with a continual media barage of serial killers, perverts, abductors, and unending lawsuits we have become a nation in many ways afraid of one another. |

Yes, it would have been nice to have some help, but as is said above, you can never be too careful because of the creeps out there. Glad you got out of there A-OK.

Yep, thats me in my avatar. It's ok area where i live. And while i wasn't expecting anyone to help to not be asked if i needed help was the kicker. And as i said on another forum to the women there.. it's not like i had a van to abduct someone... i bike is pretty hard to take a struggling person away with, especially a little 185, lol. I was not surprised that the one motorist who did come back to ask if i was ok was on a bike... what did surprise me was the number of other bikes that continued past. I guess some may have thought i had stopped because of the heat.. but why would i stop where there was no shade??? |

"sometimes when a man offers to help a lady some of these ladies get mad like you've just insulted them or something. Has happened to me a few times.." That's happened to me a few times. I just quietly tell the shrill bats I offered assistance not because they are ladies but because I'm an old school gentleman and meant no offense. And then I leave, or release the door, etc. But, by far most of them appreciate it so I keep it up when I can. Can't tell which is what until you try... |

| Very Different Times these days..
20 years ago I always made it a point to stop if I came across someone apparently stranded etc. But times have definitely changed dramatically and for several reasons such as with virtually everyone having cell phones in most cases people are not as much "stranded" as "inconvienienced", also in many areas it is now much more common for people to be lured into helping only to be assailed by nearby thugs etc or carjacked if not just treated like you might be a criminal since most people do now have a cell phone etc. So I would think that between the risks of getting into trouble by attempting to be a good Samaritan being greater and less of a likelihood that someone doesn't have help on the way definitely played a role in what you have experienced. And I know that for me I am much more careful about approaching someone who appears to be stranded etc. today than I was 20 years ago. |

We always stop and offer help, when we spot someone broke down on the road. We stopped one time, and I let the fella use my phone to call for help. He offered to pay me five bucks for the air time, and I told him no thank you, we might break down some day, and need help. The fella is a customer now, and commented about that day, and I just smiled and said I was glad we could help. We've had a few negative episodes, but the good ones outweigh the bad ones!

I always offer help when I can. It is the way I was raised, pure and simple.

Well last night i proved myself just as guilty although mind you in my case it was at night, poor lighting, nowhere to pull off and raining. But had a provisional licensed driver lose control in the wet right in front of me. It was so slow it was almost surreal but he came around a roundabout and exited sideways.. what happened then was a combination of correcting and over correcting. By the time he hit the armco (guard rail)i could have walked faster. I knew that the driver would be ok, and hoped that maybe aside from the embarrassment he may have given himself enough of a fright that next time its wet will treat the roads with a little more respect.

I will help anybody that looks like they need help. I ran a route for 30 years so my truck broke down often enough in some remote places. It's unbelieveable how many good people there are that will still help you. With cell phones to, help is a phone call away .

We witnessed a 55mph side impact one day and rushed to help. No body else stopped. They drove by. Jaws of life and life flight was needed. She was pinned in. We kept her head still, talked to her and made sure it didn't catch fire. It took twenty minutes to cut her out of that Nissan. She lived. |

We used to live in a Nation that you could just put out the old thumb and get a ride. Now with all of the crime and lawsuits, its hard to help out our fellow man. "Nice Guys Finish Last" does have a little truth to it....

But I proved them all wrong. Because of this saying and to prove to my mother that her baby would amount to something and being a christian. I made it my goal to be honest and treat people the way I wanted to be treated and worked so hard and long hours I've pretty much wrected my body. But I WON and proved the Good guy can and does come in first !!! And I give God the Glory !!!
