Crimson Trace - Where to Zero

For those of you with Crimson Trace grips, what range did you chose to zero them and why?

I just ordered a set for my Rock Island compact. From what I can find if I zero at 10 yards it will be within an inch from 0 to a little over 20 yards which should cover any situation where they would be used.

I didn't have to touch mine for my Kel Tec P3-AT. My install directions said they are factory set at "zero" for 50 feet. Held true.

Isn't the average defensive shooting distance 7 yards (21feet) why would they set the zero to more than twice that distance?

I zero mine about 7yds. minimum, 10 max. Just remember they're only zero'd at one distance. At closer distances they'll be off, but not much, but as you go father out from the zero distance, the dot and point of impact will spread farther apart. The laser is only to make sure you can hit the BG at close range under high stress, not to insure you can hit him in the ear at 50 ft.
