Savage Super Sporter

Went in the local shop today for the first time in about 2 months.

They had a Savage Super Sporter in .30-30 for $379. Its in great condition on the outside. I didn't look at the bore. Is this a fair deal? I found a Super Sporter on Gunbroker in .30-06 currently at $450. This is the first time I've ever seen one of these rifles. Does anyone have any information on these rifles? Would it be a good buy or one to pass up?

Also, all the Benelli and Stoeger shotguns are on clearance for about $120 less than regular price. I'm thinking I may try to pick up one of the Stoeger M2000s for $359.

Any suggestions on the two guns? I may go back tomorrow and check them out again.

About the lowest price I see on the Savage is $450.in decent shape and the Stoeger is about $500.That,s a quick check and possibly can be beat.but they both sound like a deal to me.Both are reputable firearms. ,,,sam.

Well...Christmas is coming up, and I've been awful good this year. And I just got a promotion at work. And I've been working lots of overtime. And I could use a little something to cheer me up.

Hell, maybe I'll go buy them both. We'll see.

You didn't mention which caliber you bought. I pray you stayed away from the .30-30. None of them are worth taking into the woods compared to the modern calibers.

Actually deadeye even though I have a 270WSM I also have a Model 94 30-30. The 30-30 is one of the best bush guns around and has taken more than its fair share of game in North America and still does to this day!!!!

That is a great deal.. I have seen many super sporters and they shoot well and were well built. deadeyebax, the 30-30 has been around over 100 years and is going to be here for many more, in fact it has taken more game than any of the modern cals and it will take a long time for them to catch the ol' 30-30, if they can.. Great deer round that is still one of the most popular, and for good reason..

Top 5 deer cartrages in the U.S.

#1- 30-06 Springfield
#2- 270 Winchester
#3- 30-30 Winchester
#4- 308 Winchester
#5- 243 Winchester
I see a pattern here...

The rifle is chambered in .30-30 and I completely disagree with you. I don't really plan on using the rifle to hunt with. I have a .308 and a .30-06 that I would choose over the .30-30, but I wouldn't hesitate for a minute to deer hunt with a .30-30. Most of the deer I've killed were taken with a Winchester 94 in .30-30. If my daughter ever shows any interest in hunting I think this rifle would be a great choice....as long as it shoots good.

WOW, I am completely green with envy right now!!!

That is an excellent piece of steel you have, and I would have jumped on it if it had surfaced in my neck of the woods.

I also believe that the .30-30 is one of the best cartridges for two or four legged critters available. Give me a .30-30 carbine for anything short of a tactical entry and I would be happy.
