Good first day for me...

Today was the first day of open firearms season in VA here. About ten minutes after I walked to my first stand and about two minutes after the dogs were let loose, this buck came walking right up to me, about 20 yards away. He paused for a second, caught a sniff of the next man up the fence and took off. I shot him once, he went about 10 yards, stood there, I shot again and he dropped right there. It was a pretty good way to start the season. Two loads of 000 Buck to the lungs makes deer go down fast.
I was pretty interested in this rack because the horns were about 1/2 inch apart. I think it looks pretty neat.

You're in the Tidewater area, right? You mentioned dogs, that's legal down that way. Not up in this way, but I can hunt with a rifle. Saw Jack today, hopefully next weekend I'll see some live deer and not just road kill.

It's always a nice feeling to fill a tag on opening day.

Thank you guys! I live right on the tidewater/Piedmont fall line, but I hunt down in Buckingham county with some good family friends and a bunch of good people.

Side note: I took the rack off the deer and decided to place it in the sun to let it cure a bit today. When I got home from work, the rack was gone! I'm going to go looking for it tomorrow, but I'm real mad I don't have it right now.

I hope you find your antlers...A.H

Nope, haven't seen the antlers in a few days now, I guess I'm just gonna have to replace them with a larger set
