I need a pair of boots. Ill be deer hunting in upstate NY the temps can range from 45 on a warm opening day to some colder temps at the end of the season in the 20's. I want a boot that will keep my feet warm while sitting in the morning but something that I wont sweat too bad in while stalking. Ive been looking at 800,1000,1200,1400 grams of insolation. What do you all recomend? I found a good deal on a pair of 1400's. Also do you all prefer the soild rubber boots, or the lace up type?? Ive heard the rubber boots tend to be colder.? Any in put would help out.
I've got a pair of 1400' for fall camping in northern Minnesota. The temp in my tent the last morning was 32. I really like the boots, but they get real heavy and too warm when doing the back woods walks in moderate temps. I always bring 2 pair of boots. I usually wear the lighter pair when I will be walking a lot and the heavier pair when I move less.
Try not to laugh too much, but I've been known to go out in the dead of winter in a pair of East German officer's knee-high combat boots with a pair of thick wool socks and my pants bloused into them. You know the kind; rubber combat-soled, pebble-finished pigskin boots. The people at the range and the supermarket look at me funny, but I can stay on the range for hours without my feet getting cold in that get-up.
