Yep, foam...we had one of our C-12s get loaded up with the stuff during a storm....the ACFT door was open and a nozzle just happened to be pointed straight at the open door....This acft was at Ft. Rucker and a special test acft....alot of money was wasted that day...

Exclamation

Once when my frigate was in drydock, we had the firemain "Christmas Tree" let go at night, just outside the CIC bulkhead - with big cutouts for gear replacement. Soaked every piece of electronics with salt water!
Big surprise being rolled out of your rack on the barracks barge at zero-dark-thirty for "FLOODING" aboard ship - and knowing she isn't in the water!

So we pulled every piece of gear out of it's rack and put them in the shower to hose the salt water off - it was already soaked....... What a mess!

I remember that story. It was the fire supression system. I can't find the news article but here's a video of a system test. And before anyone says anything I already know they spelled hangar wrong at the beginning of the video.

I cant put into words how much I hate that stuff. It would go off at random in my last hanger and I got blasted in the eyes with it once.

YouTube - Aircraft Hangar High Expansion Foam System Test
An impressive mess, "OK Bob, get the ShopVac and clean this up", but I'd say you could have a HELL of a fire going before that foam got to the point of stopping it. Not very impressive IMO. Maybe if all planes were parked directly under the nozzles.....

I'd much rather see a pressurized Halon discharge that would have sent the looky-loos scattering. I work in telecom, and our remote sites are all protected with FM-2000 Halon systems. When one of those goes off, you WILL leave the building!
