My guess on this would be that the fire surpression system in the hangar went off by accident. They use a chemical foam in there in case the fuel starts on fire. Some of those systems can be pretty big. We had one go off in a base hangar when I was in. No planes in that one and we got it shut down before it got that bad.

Foam ain't so bad. Had it been the old Purple-K, they be stripping all the electrical gear out of the aircraft for replacement. Nasty stuff!

when i was working on gummint helicopters, it was required that all fuel be pumped out, and the fuel system purged.

Bigdog just think if it were the old proteine foam.
Papa you are right about pumping the fuel out but some of the hangars are for alert aircraft and they are ready to go.

I remember that old protein foam. I got to man the foam nozzle on the fire team in the training ship at Fire & Boat Drill one time when The Mate was demonstrating the various firefighting methods we had available to us. Messy as can be, but very effective on oil fires. Just remember to bank it off a bulkhead or a hatch coaming or something, not aim it directly into the fire.

AFFF foam. SWEET JESUS! You people have no idea the pain and suffering that the maintainers are gonna have to go through to take apart everything on those aircraft and dip them to get the chemicals off.
