My new Block and tackle

Getting a bit older, I decided to treat myself to a decent lift system for deer. Didn't want to spend a bundle. I picked this up locally for about $30.00. Crawled up in the attic over the garage and braced a 2x6 3 joist wide Ran the eye bolt through the dry wall and secured to the 2x6. Now all I need is the big one to hang on it. Will see this weekend. My brother and I set the ground blind today.

LOL we just use a tree limb and a rope...we pull it up with the truck if it's too heavy.

That's a nice set-up ya got there though!

Yep, done the tree limb and rope thing. This is the first time Iv'e had a garage. The B&T is right next to my bench where I'll cut it up. Have a light as well. I'm pretty jazzed about the upgrade. I can actually cut up a deer without being out in the weather & dark.

You'll appreciate having that. I never did think it was fun to try to pull a deer up into a tree or rafters or where ever else without a little bit of mechanical assistance.

That's cheatin'. I thought tugging for all you're worth, and then dropping the deer in the dirt was all part of the hunt.

Looks good, and handy...

...hope the reinforced ceiling joist/roof rafter is strong enough for you're critter hanging needs?

Will it sustain the weight of an elk?

That was an option, no good place to mount it.

Yes Sir, don't know why I was so stubborn all these years.

Should be good. I spread it fairly evenly with the 2x6, the hoist is rated for 600#. They make one for 1500# I mostly end up shooting does that weight around 150-160 dressed.

Thanks AH, hopefully the next report will include some meat hanging from it. I can back the truck into the garage & hook 'er up. From the truck bed, I'm almost 1/2 way there. I got tired of struggling with them. I took a deer this spring that got hit in front of the house & had to horse it up onthe corner of the deck and work on it outside at 11:00 at night. Seems the older i get the more I appreciate the ease of doing things smarter. I was off on the price, the rig was only $22.00. Worst case is the rope may wear out after a few seasons, then replace it.

I take it your bench is close to the wall. if thats the case the three trusses should hold the block and tackles maximum capacity with no problem

Now THAT is what I call optimism. A guy who sets up a hoist capable of lifting 400 lbs the week before deer season is a guy I can follow.

Wink

Jerry...I use a block and tackle similar to your's hanging from my garage ceiling(forces spread across three ceiling joists) to lift my boat off the trailer. Works great! Need to do that when I work on the trailer...like putting on new boat support carpet, etc.

Question...Do you need a 2nd deer to keep the steel lift from tipping down on one side? What did I miss seeing here? Guess that's a good excuse to shoot two deer at a time.(ha)

Ok...just tie the deer up from the middle of the steel bar...that'd keep it centered.
