Question So. Cal. Crime

I just heard on the news here in So.Cal. that a man had stabbed to death his wife and 6 yr. old stepdaughter. I guess he must have been one of the people that skirted the 15 day waiting period (cooling off and background check), to buy a knife. Or sword, hammer, vase, bottle, golf club, baseball bat, etc. I thought it was a felony to end someones life with any of these items. Hmmmm.... Just goes to show, the system doesn't work on the punishment, only the weapon. I wonder if they make assault pitchforks in black?

You can ban guns, knives, and other "dangerous weapons" as many times as you want, but evil doers will always find a way to harm others.

So. Cal. Crime

Amen brother! The government would rather ban guns, rather than require the death penalty for anyone who intentionally uses one to commit a crime.

In China, where "weapons" are unlawful for private possession, the preferred murder weapon of choice is RAT POISON. No BS, dude. Their murder rate is also in line with NYC and Detroit. That's a hell of a lot of rat killer, if you ask me...

There are stabbings in prisons where there are no knives. Banning weapons of any kind WILL NOT stop crime!

Well,

you have hit upon a truly rock solid point.

A person committed to this type action will find a means to his or her end goal.

If the means were to strangle or smother the victims society, I rather suppose, would have to be careful as to who has access to rope or a pillow.

Brings to mind a one on one discussion I had with an Immigration officer at the San Ysidro border crossing into Mexico a number of years ago...I had been to San Quentine on the Baja Peninsula fishing for a few days. I was driving a Ford Ranchero pick up with my tackle boxes, etc behind the seats in a narrow storage space. I also had a shortened baseball bat that I used as a fish killing bat for larger fish. The end of the bat was drilled and I'd planned to melt lead into the holes to add weight. The officer examined all my stuff and informed me that had I already poured lead into the bat it would fall under the term "sap" and he would immediately call San Diego Police and have me arrested...I was told carrying a "concealed sap" carries the same felony punishment as illegally carrying a concealed pistol. Because I had not poured the lead and because it was evident I had been fishing and my story was ok, he just had me dump the bat into a trash can and move on. There are some pretty specific laws about wepons of all kinds that are burried in the law..the gun laws get talked about over and over but the other stuff is deep in the books and doesn't often see the light of day.

Since I can't legally carry where I live and I won't chance a felony for illegal carry I am very cautious...living along the border is not the safest place on earth. I carry at home and have s/d equipment throughout the house and garage which is all legal. When I'm out and "naked" I'm extremely careful of surroundings and people....not paranoid but very alert to potential threats and if noted, I simply leave the area. I also watch when I come home to make sure no one is nearby that might follow me to the door and force their way in...happens often and a daylight strongarm burglary ensues. I guess if confronted directly and "naked" I'd probably grab whatever was close to use as a weapon and do what I could with it to protect myself...they we'd worry about "is it legal to use or not".
