Nice project billy, but I'll bet you 3k you blow the 3k budget

Been their, done that way too many times. Have you priced automotive window glass lately? Lexan would be the cheap way. What's the plan for the front suspension? A sub-frame from a Camaro or Nova would work and you could slam it easy. A rolling frame for under 1.5k is a feat. wheels, tires, springs and shocks, fab steel and welding rod, brakes and brake lines, wheel cylinders and master cylinder. Steering box or rack and pinion. 3k can turn into 30k in a heartbeat.
But it sure is fun.

Flat Heads For Ever!

Not a rat rod but the same work. This is my last one, no more, final. I have the tin in and nose is mounted, brakes are done. Next is cooling and fuel system.

Next up for our Young William will be a chopper, with a Ford Flathead in it! (Yes, you can buy these!)

Heck with that noise. If you are going to put an unusual engine, get yourself a decertified jet turbine off a Learjet and put it to powering your motorhuckle. Jay Leno has one in his collection and he said in Popular Mechanics that it's the only motorcycle he owns that he's afraid to ride. He tried it once and he went from zero-to-ohmigawd! in about three seconds.

Now, if our own Sweet William wanted to try something completely different, here's an idea for him. Get hold of a VW Thing and drop the engine and transmission from a Porsche Turbo into it. The power-to-mass ratio would be astonishing.

If he builds it, I call shotgun. I had a Thing for awhile and I loved that little spam can on wheels. Only car I ever owned I felt confident enough to work on myself without my dad looking over my shoulder, as long as I had my copy of John Muir's How to Keep Your Volkswagen Alive For The Compleat Idiot handy.

I think you are going to have a blast building that rod up, Billy!!!!

I helped my dad restore a 55 chevy step side pick up when I was in high school. Had a great time. Just brought it back to original.

Congrats and keep us posted on the progress!

I've ridden one, they are a little slow until they spool up. Once they are spooled they are a rocket ship. It takes a awhile to get used to the throttle lag, it's twist the throttle, count two and OOHHHH SH!!!!!

Yup, 20,000 miles a 1/4 mile at a time.

Who's trying to discourage you, billy? We're just trying to give you ideas we aren't skilled enough to pull off ourselves!
