Well, this is my first season hunting alone and I did manage to get a doe.She came right at me and I dropped her with my .444.The bullet hit between the vitals and stomach, but she still went down in her tracks.I guess it's a testiment to the stopping power of a big bore.I went hunting last year for the first time ever and got a buck under an apprentice license, but this year I went alone with my own license, and I have to say she is nearly as big as the buck I took last year,if not the same size.I still have a buck license to fill,so wish me good luck with the remaining 2 weeks of firearms deer season.
(it's 40 degrees here, with about a 20mph wind, rained off and on all day, got a fire in the fire place and venison stew in the crock pot, days lke this it's REAL nice to have some venison in the freezer)

Ohio's gun season doesn't start until December 1. I was going to go hunting in Kentucky with my brother-in-law to be, but the out-of-state license and tags were obscenely expensive.
Congrats on the doe. Onward to the buck!

Oh it's bad if you came up here too.I think it runs $155 for a single deer license for an out of stater, but it's $15 for residents.
Can someone shed some light on my question? The guy at the processor is absolutely sure that my doe is 100lbs,maybe 97lbs he says. This don't sound right to me,especially since she was darn heavy to drag, and look at my pic,I am about 6' and 240,she looks bigger than 100 lbs I think.
I'd say the butcher is right. Once skinned and the legs remover and the waste remove espescialy where the deer is shot the weight goes down.
You'll get more meat than you think you will from that doe...A.H
EDIT: After looking at the Doe hanging from the Gambrels it does'nt look as big as the first picture.
You'll still get plenty of packages of meat though.
Now go harvest another one LOL

I have a question since i'm new to deer hunting. Is it normal for a deer to go down immediatly with the shot I made, like my deer did(the pic isn't the deer I shot,it's just an illustration of where I shot it),or did my deer go down instantly because of the caliber of gun I was using(.444 marlin)?
Nice doe! I'm not an expert on the shot but it probably is a combination of both. The .444 is a pretty good sized projectile capable of producing a lot of muzzle energy at close ranges so I'm sure that had to be considered. Judjing by the placement of the shot I'd say you probably did some damage to the spinal column which immediately paralyzed the animal and went down. Just a guess because I don't know the distance it was shot at and I did not perform the autopsy. Cool turkeys too! If I were taking that shot I'd be torn between shooting at the turkeys head or the deer if the turkeys were in season.
