My dads first job was in the Civilian Conservation Corps. That was back in the 30's when there wasn't any jobs available. He got an opportunity at a better job after a while and was encouraged to take it. He wound up being the Personnel Director for a large paper mill and made a very good living. He worked his way up from the very bottom. What is wrong with having the same opportunities for people today. Instead of just giving them a living on the dole, put them to work. Men and Women alike. This is not political in any way, but a way to get people off a cycle of living that they will never change unless they are forced to change. I am 100% in favor of helping those that cannot help themsleves. But those that choose to do nothing and get paid for it are dragging our country down with them.
I agree. there is no free lunch. every one works or they don't eat. oops., thats socialism.
Socialism would work if everyone worked.(produced)Thats why it won't work.If you get equal amounts whether you work or not, there is no incentive to work. ,,,sam.
CCC would never be able to fill any jobs nowadays. Simply because too many people are on the public dole and many more wanting to be. They don't want work, they want free food, money, housing, cars, etc. The CCC did NOT provide that.
I believe people who have any "grit" in them, would work for a
program like the ccc, and i think there are a lot of them. The
"want you to give it to me" people still wouldn't. I think they
should all do something for the handouts they receive, even if
it's just keeping the city, town, highways, streets clean.
I totally support the idea. Just look at all the urban blight in so many of our major cities. The cities could buy a blighted area or in some way make a forced acquisiion under eminent domain. The unemployed and young people could dismantle the area then turn it into city parkland or some other useful situation thus encouraging others to buy property near the project, tear down the blight, and build nice homes.
It's not forced labor really. You want a job, we've got one. And you no longer get paid to sit on your butt, if you can work and choose not to. Talk about reducing federal spending !!
The CCC put a lot of people to work after the Depression. They did projects in every state and territory. We could go to work rebuilding our infrastructure, cleaning up out waters, and building The Southern Wall of the US.

I think it's a good idea!! Also if you are receiving public assistance then you should work for the public whether it be sweeping the streets, cleaning up parks or what have you.
I saw an article where a politician in Memphis wanted parents who didn't keep their kids in school would lose some of their welfare check. People were very upset about it but it makes sence to me!!!!
The CCC might work for a while, especially with our southern visitors, but it would not be long before the old card deck would come out and they would have to be closed.
In the 30's there were no race cards, that's why it worked.
An interesting tidbit:
"The history of welfare in the U.S. started long before the government welfare programs we know were created. In the early days of the United States, the colonies imported the British Poor Laws. These laws made a distinction between those who were unable to work due to their age or physical health and those who were able-bodied but unemployed. The former group was assisted with cash or alternative forms of help from the government. The latter group was given public service employment in workhouses."

the first welfare project in america was tva and the dams, men were given money in exchange for working on the projects and most made a decent living earning a few dollars a day wich was much more than most were earning. i think that welfare should be abolished for the most part except in very rare cases. i think that if somebody can work and chooses not to then they should starve to death or learn to live of the land. i also beleive that women shouldnt keep having children to get more welfare i think that after 2 then she should either have her tubes tied, crotch glued shut, or cut of welfare permantly. also foodstamps are a big problem, in tennessee you get cut off for 2-3 years for trading them for drugs if it is the first offense, why not forever and you pay the state back triple what they gave you?

there's a lot of tyranny being being suggested on this tread. taking property, forced labor, forced sterilization. work details.
don't get me wrong, I'm very much against welfare (for the poor or the rich).
If someone buys a building and lets it sit and rot that's their business. I for one would love to live in a country where poor or weak or stupid people are allowed to starve in the street.
